I'm just guessing but I think triplex was being facetious when referring to those rims.

How bout a single gauge hood for my block of plates?

haha, yea i realized that, esp cause those were small ghetto chrome, but imagine 4 of these wheels on my truck, and 2 on my trailer, i think it'd look super bad ass

Nam,

These rims are 13" and fit perfect on my Speedster trailer, and they look bangin' too. Better than the galvanized steelies from the factory. Although, the clear is starting to bubble by the bore for the hub, so when I get new tires I'll bead blast them and powder coat them with the wheel silver.

thems are super sexy, but I wanted it to match my truck, gotta have at least 17's :)

Ugh, went from happy I bought mine to wishing I didn't buy mine lmao. See Racer, this is why I am so shocked at the values you are quoting :). This is why I told you mine was a $3500 boat once done :).

don't sweat that one, I think yours is a better buy, I'm pretty sure that's the same one that my mechanic guy was working, i don't think it's the carb, doesn't look like he got it going

u see it in the last picture, pretty sure it's the same one, cause i remember the wheels, it's not his btw

i could be mistaken though, i don't see the squiggly on the top half of the hull, unless the owner put it on after, but I do remember custom wheels

Haha, nice! His trailer on the blinged out hummer looks ghetto fabulous too, but the boat looked clean in the pics.

Kwik,

That thing needs work, OEM graphics GONE, the trailer POS the bunk is broken, missing fenders, engines probably look hammered. A boat like that without the OEM graphics I wouldn't even look at it. Not to mention he wants to trade for a Bayliner--that is a boat you couldn't give me.

You got a great deal, with some refreshing and detailing to really make the boat POP is where you will make the money if needed. It's mostly labor, but detail the engines with new paint, not like a 4 y.o. would have painted it either tidy everything up. If you had to I would sell it on Ebay and get a greater draw. Remember sell your 08, put some into the 99 and get your Baja, in the end you got 2 boats now not one. Just beat the price down on the Baja by a grand and it's like you paid $500 for the 99. That's what I call the shell game to make you feel good! I get a ton of compliments on my boat and most guys think it's only a few years old and the freak when I tell them it is a 99.

I wish you lived up here, I'd help you out with it to make you feel better.

yea it might not be, i still think it could be though, cause when i was looking at it in his yard i go "cool wheels, I wanta put different wheels on my trailer too" that other picture is at least 3 months old though, not sure if that even makes a difference but maybe seller had time to spruce things up, but regardless, the 99 that kwik got is still way sexier

Some good points :). To me, the graphics are personal preference. I have considered removing mine due to some scratches and minor drying/curled edges in them but was certainly going to wait until it is all done to see how it cleans up as I would prefer to keep them. Nice engine pic, now I have a reference point for mine to make sure it's all as it should be :). I know I read something here a while ago about what paint was a close match for the engines- was that you that posted it? If so, what was the color? I remember it was a wheel paint.

I just noticed- is that an SBT engine in there?

Edit- lol about the Bayliner- my wife wants an 18' or so Bayliner Capri, Larson, Stingray, etc. bow rider as the family boat.

just a sticker? couldn't you remove it if you wanted? just for looks that is, i guess the function is useful

How long have they been using the heat indicator? My GSI has an older SBT motor and it does not have it. I shouldn't have said SBT specifically, but it appeared to be a reman. If it was an SBT, I was just curious how it has been holding up.

Ok here's the story. Just after the warranty expired on my Speedster the port engine died. Seized the mag piston. Took it to a shop that a friend used for years that is a Doo dealer and they build some wicked fast lake racer snowmobiles. Pay the gent $1,300 and all is good. Use the boat 5-6 times same thing. Call my friend and eventually(a year later) get some of my cash back. In comes a local engine builder, let's say one of the three names that is always thrown around on here. You can figure it out by where I live. Take the boat over, it's gonna be 2K for an engine, supposedly I needed a new crank, cases and top end rebuild. OK great, call me when it's done. A few weeks pass and I pick it up, alas no engine serial plate--I'M PISSED but let it go. Again 5-6 times same result, fixed under a no fault warranty. And yet again 5-6 times same result. At the time work was busy and commissions were good so it was easier for me to pay to have the work done. Well after the third strike I call in the big guns--ME, I can F up just like the last two guys, right? So I tear it down, hey guess what, my original cases, now I'm fired up. Oh I forgot to mention it's my original crank too. Bite my lip keep my hole shut and take on the chin like a man. I order a reman BRP crank from PPG, send them my C/B shaft to rebuild my cylinders to bore with new OEM oversize pistons. There was another $1,542.66. Do the math I'm an ass-load into one engine already! Get all the parts sit in my parents shore house and put it together on a card table in the living room, being the only son has it perks. I had read the manual cover to cover multiple times and made the block off plates so I could pressure test the engine when complete. She wouldn't hold air for a minute, well I finally found my leak on the MAG cylinder. I guess the previous two guys just never checked it, both were great guys but you don't skip on that test, an air leak is the kiss of death on any two stroke. Needless to say since June of 08' that engine has never failed or hiccuped once. Sorry for the long winded response, this is the sole reason I will not endorse any engine rebuilder, I don't want to hear excuses, placed blame or other bullshit my time is more important. I know they are all good places, but YOU get your ass burned twice and let me know what it's like. I can mess it up just like the best and I can only point the blame at one guy when it fails. I know this is not the scenario for everyone. So long story short, that is not an SBT in my boat and I would love to have my serial plate back, but that is not going to happen. I'm not pissed anymore about the previous builders I just felt duped after getting charged so much, now I know exactly what I put into it--you can see what I have done with my XP build, same with my Speedster engine. The other engine in the Speedster was done the following year, but that has the original crank and pistons. It had a leaky base gasket that drove me nuts. So I pulled it down, detailed the engine re-ringed it and put it back in. If you guys were my neighbors I'd invite you over to my shop and I'd help you build your own engine. No I'm not getting into the engine building business either.

I would have been fuming mad as well!! What was the cause of the air leak on the motor? This is why I always have and always will do all my own work! I caught flak in my post about rebuilding using SBT parts vs. just buying an SBT motor- not that they don't ever build reliable motors, but I just trust myself more.

I have the motor out of the 99 and will be splitting the cases today after picking up a flywheel puller from my friend. This too, will be rebuilt by myself. It needs a bore, pistons, etc. and more than likely a crank from what I can see so far. Sure, I can pick up an SBT for $845 and be done with it, but doing it myself- I know it is right, I get to inspect the parts, and I prefer to keep my original cases with tag.

Now mind you both the builders are not responsible for the first time but in the end they should have found the leak or the cause of the siezure. It was leaking at the base gasket on the mag cylinder or at the case halves but on the mag side of the engine. I literally stumbled upon it by accidentally spraying WD-40 on the case while reaching for something and it started to bubble at the joint. That is when I tried multiple time to reseal the case and cylinders to no avail. I was using the recommended Loctite by Seadoo. I called Group K and and picked their brains and they said hands down don't use the loctite but to use Threebond 1211. So I ordered it up, sealed it up and it held the first time--I'm sold on the Threebond. 5 seasons later no issues.

I used the Dupli-Color WP101 Wheel silver.

Everyone has their own opinion on which way to go for everything, so for some it's buy with a warranty or build with with a satisfaction guarantee. Nothing wrong with either in my book, I just like to stay busy.

No family boat for me, it's all about the go fast-look good. Thankfully they're on board with me, it also doesn't help them that I can't afford the boat I really want so were stuck with the Speedster.

Yep, currently painting my basement. I can't sit still. Up till late hours of the night then up early. 6 hour of sleep, I can get plenty of rest when I'm dead.

I've heard RacerXXX's story before and that is why I want those block off plates so bad. This was a better version of that story.

I have that "keep busy" gene as well. It must have something in common with the appreciation of the best of watercraft.

XXX, I'm buying in, what's your dream boat?

Something along the lines of this but any quality ski boat would do, like a Moomba or Centurion. I like to water ski here and there and knee board, but I really would like this for the kids to enjoy. Again, to me the boat has to have the look, the function for the family, meh that's low on the list, beats sitting on the shore watching the boats go by! Oh and it has to be Yellow. Yeah and I need to hit the lottery. It would be tough to depart from the jet drive, I love the shallow running and one of these would take me right out of that scene. Always nice to dream.
