Extremely high idle on trailer....

I just replaced all fuels lines on two 1996 seadoo xps. One i had to remove carbs to replace the connecting lines. Afterward, i notcied that ski is now idling unusally high. Compared to the other, it sounds like this one is at half throttel. Im wondering is I messed up reinstallin the carbs, esp the gasket between the carbs and motor. Would that cause this to rev at idle? And what is the right way to reinstall the gasket between carbs and motor. Was a challenge lining up the carbs, screws and gaskets all at once. Thank you

also, what is the best way to check rpms with no tac installed?

Will need a tachometer to check RPMs properly.

I take a dab of RTV on backside of gaskets and put the gasket on engine. Let it set for minute or 2 then put carbs on. You may have a vacuum leak somewhere on engine causing unmetered air to enter engine and high rpm idle.

Spray some carb cleaner around the base of the carbs. If the idle changes you have a gasket leak. Sounds to me that you have an air leak I some sort.

If the gasket sealer and carb cleaner doesn't work, and everything else looks correct, check your cable. When I replaced the carbs on my XP, the little lead looking "barrel" on the end of the the throttle cable was in the hole on the carb where it was supposed to be. But there was a burr, keeping the cable from laying flat in the groove, on the carb and holding the throttle open. It would idle as if the throttle was being squeezed. Once I got that burr off there, the idle came down and ran as it is supposed to.

It's turns out the gasket between the carbs and motor was layin funky...i took em off...put RTV on both carbs and motor between gasket...and now.it's purring like a kitty...
