Doing some work to the inside part of my 96 xp and after I am done. I think it would be a good idea if i clean the outside of the engine up and the inside of the hull
Just curious of what good cleaners there are that wont discolor the paint of the engine

I know in automotive i use castrol super clean (purple power). but I have seen that it can discolor the paint and dont want to use it on the ski engine if i know it will do that.
Any input is appericated

It can discolor the paint... if you leave it on for a long time. So... spray everything in the bilge... give it a couple minutes to work... and then hose it off. (warm water works best, if you can adjust the temp of you hose water)

Over the years... I've found Super Clean to work significantly better than purple power.

And as Lou said... I've been using it for years to clean the bilge. It will even kill the old mildew, and leaves the inside of the hull VERY clean.

I agree with Tony and Lou.
Super Clean works better than Purple power. I've used it on both of my skis and boat. It's best to scrub the really bad spots with a brush of some sort....a toothbrush works in the tight spots as well. Let it soak for several minutes after scrubbing then hose it off. If inside the hull keep the airbox on and be careful of the electrical boxes.

OH, I usually transfer the Super Clean into a spray bottle of some type and then spray it into the dirty spots.

Some people just pour some SC into the hull with a bucket or 2 of hot water then drive it around on the trailer to get it clean "all over"

If you'd like to see the results of Super clean check my XP thread. Plenty of pics to see the results. DO NOT get it on the yellow unless you wash it off right away. I put it in a spray bottle. You'll read the process I use.

I use a brush like this it's got stiff black plastic bristles and is about an 1" in diameter and flexible, it will do you good in all the nooks and crannies.

Super Clean is on sale at Advanced Auto parts right now..

2 for $7 http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...roduct_all-wheel-cleaner-superclean_7600009-p

1 Gallon for $ 7.99

agree with all posters, super clean > purple power but both work well, just that SC works better,

thats a fair price, but i'm in the "buy a gallon and pour it in an old windex bottle" category, i use the stuff all the time to clean up some really really dirty hulls... and they come out great. plus it workds great on stubborn stains on tile floors and spots on the driveway as well.

My wife uses it for household cleaner, we dilute it about 50%, she says it works better than anything she has used and it's also a lot cheaper.

Lou

I'm with Lou's wife on this one, I dilute it by half and find there is not much difference. If the grease is thick and heavy I will use the full strength but for that layer of oil on the bottom half strength works fine.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but can you spray the entire engine bay with Super Clean, motors and all then spray everything with a hose? My entire engine bay can use a good cleaning.

yes you may do that. Just watch out that you don't spray too hard on the E-boxes or upward under the air box(that leads into the carb opening).
On real dirty built up areas, let it soak then use a toothbrush or scrub brush then hose off. Some people put lots of superclean in a 5 gallon bucket with hot water....dump it in the hull (with drain plugs in) and drive around awhile it's on the trailer...then drain and hose off.
Disconnect the battery to be on the safer side.

that is a fantastic idea

Keep it simple

Super Clean, Round tipped brush, a garden hose, and an hour of your time.

By the time you're done dicking around with the pressure washer, getting soaked from head to toe, worrying where you got water, wrapping it all back up you would have been done and admiring the results. Just keep spraying it on and on and on until is loose, then wash it out with the garden hose with a sprayer nozzle. WEAR RUBBER GLOVES, it will eat your skin in a few days and you'll have zombie skin, just take my word for it.

Full strength super clean in a spray bottle (while just dumping it in the hull) and a scrub brush has never been beaten IMHO.

And definitely wear rubber gloves.

I just use a pressure washer. No scrubbing required and looks awesome

I have a pressure washer, but I was afraid it might get water somewhere it doesn't belong.

Not to mention... you can de-laminate the hull if the washer is powerful enough. Pressure washer is just a bad idea on anything mechanical.

Here's what super clean will do. This is NO scrubbing... and garden hose pressure. (2 applications. Once to get the bulk, and the second for what you missed)

Its not like you are going to use a 3000lb washer at 1" distance

It is apparent from your comments that you have no experience dealing directly with the general public and you obliviously have no idea the ignorance they are capable of! :D

Agree'd.

Generally I recommend the safest way to approach an issue. A pressure ware can cause issues if not used right. AND... there are lot's of people out there who would use it wrong.

I do the same thing with a spray bottle. I also use it in my pressure washer cleaner tank to clean my house vinyl siding.
