I just got a new seal carrier for my 1994 spx... Well anyways The dealership offered to put the bearing + the 2 double lip seals in for no charge.. Well anyways the point is I put it all back together and when I greased the seal carrier I have always greased it till a little came out the front where I could see it "visable".. well when I did the new one it never came out the front it only came out the back side. My question is.. Did the dealership put the front double lip seal on backwards??? Does this matter? Would it effect anything? I know it is suppose to come out the back cause it did on my last one but it also came out the front... Front = AS INSIDE THE HULE.....

sealcarrier1.jpg

The seal has a small looks like a wire that goes around the rubber inside...

Mine had this also but it faces in now... The guy told me it doesnt matter the bearing is still sealed tight as the back one.. and this makes it able to take more grease??

My question is will this effect anything? Could I leave it?

This pic is correct. The rubber connector stabilizes the bearing from rotateing. It should be stainless screw clamped to hull snout & the bearing.
The carrier bearing remains stabilized in the up position as the motor runs.
You may have excessivly pressure pumped the zerk, at least at the hull side it will prevent water entry. Hope you pumped the PTO zerk also! Bills86e

I put in the whole assembled kit for the seal carrier in. The carrier, hose, two clamps and the insert.

Also yes I greased the PTO side, I only grease that every so often when I see it needs it..

I see now. I remember a gap. Between the two.. Like right were the zerk is. I dont think that bearingis riding against the front seal. It rides against the back seal. Should it be flush with both?? Would the bearing come loose? I mean it is pressed in if it moved just a little would it matter?? I mean it is super tight all it could do is move a tade back and forth not really go anywhere eles..

Never mind the gap is suppose to be there you can see it in the picture above... I just want to know if anyone really thinks this is a problem... Cause it will suck to take the pump off again and redo this myself...

turning bearing around 180*?

Pull the jetpump back from the hull, the shaft probly will come out of the PTO if pto shaft clamp removed.

That picture is the right way. If you can't see the spring inside the seal, it's in backwards. I have seen a lot of those (jet pumps too) with that seal in backwards.

So I guess I will be the first one to try it out cause no one seems to know if it will be ok to ride with it backwards? If i sink ill let you guys know.

probably your not getting a response, because they were installed the correct way?

there are some aftermarket sources that will give you a double and a single lip seal. The single lip one helps keep from blowing out a seal if you pump too much greese in it. Im not sure how it holds up to the claim but i purchased one and havent installed it yet. If they do hold up to the claim might be easier to replace the one with a single lip why its all apart.

so i got one of these for my 97 xp and the single lip pulled away from bearing when i pumped 2 shots grease in! what should i do jsut pull apart and push back in!?
