I have a ski that I'd like to dispose of, it's stripped to the hull...

anyone here know of any good (preferably legal) ways to accomplish this?

thanks.

Legally... you need the title, and take it to a dump. BUT... that has gotten expensive over the years. Locally, it costs me $70, and my time. (use to only be $30)

SO... the last hull I got rid of... I cut it up with a Sawzall, and put it in trash bags. (Keep the hull tag, and the title for future defense) Basically, if the trash guys can pick it up without too much effort, or seeing what it is... they will take it. A good, coarse bi-metal blade (about 8 teeth per inch) will go though the hull like butter, and it will only take about 30~40 minutes to cut it up into 6"~8" hunks. If your trash people are picky... don't try to throw it away all at one time. (do it over a couple weeks)

Last thing... put it in the local CraigsList for $50. You may get someone who needs it. (if it has a clear title)

I emailed a local trash guy who will take anything that fits in a 6x12 box for $100.00 up to 500 lbs, and he comes and gets it!

For $100 it's worth it to not mess w/the.. mess of cutting it into pieces. but if that doesn't pan out, that's the plan... that and going at it w/a sledge hammer... a few blown engines and messed up weekends, and tool related bleeding have left me with some anger that only a 22 lb sledge meeting a fiber glass hull can fix...:willy_nilly:

sabr - if you smash it to smithereens make sure you take a video of the process.......Maybe you can charge people a couple bucks for 5 smacks with the sledge??

lol good call, I'll get the camcorder.

The hulls in no condition to ever see water again, else selling it would be an option. I bought it knowing I'd part it out.

My dump has never asked me for paperwork...They have a $80/ton minimum so I gotta take a load. Last one was my record! I drive about 30mi using backroads only having to hop on the freeway for a mile.

Last load was 13 big seadoo hulls!!!!

our local dump is very very cheap,
a standard hull with a few misc parts, runs about $7.

we dropped off two hulls and a whole crap load of scrap parts for $31 about 4 weeks ago. smelled awful, but the price was right

call ur local dump and get a per ton price

it really hurt me to see all those x4 hulls on there.

They had seen much better days...theres only 2 800 hulls there and one was pancaked by a tree falling on it.

I wouldnt throw that away. Around me there are tons of people (hillbillies) who have farms and stuff in the country. They love to shoot guns and blow stuff up. They would be fun to shoot at.

I had a similar thought, ever see the program "Sons of Guns"?

No kidding, if you dispose of the hull be sure to cut out the HIN, take it to the county clerk (or who ever handles titles in your state) along with your title. If you don't you're likely to get property tax bills from now on. You may need to get a junk title.

Lou

Wish you were closer. Myself and a freind of mine have been talking about cutting one in half and hanging it on the wall of his shop. :D

Or make a cool mailbox

Also why didnt you keep the seats of those? People are always looking for go seat foam

You can only save so much. Due to the expense of shipping I have only sold 1 crappy seat.

Its the same with the hoods. I have 2 perfect yellow ones on the shelf, and one ok one...no need to take anymore space.

Those stupid GTX/GTS hoods cost so much to ship no one buys them either.

Doing it a while you kind of get a feel of what sells and what doesnt...but murphys law will get you every time. Save everything and you never sell the weird stuff. And it always happens...the hulls sit all summer then go to the dump and a week later a guy needs something you just threw away.

Hey Lou, too bad we didn't know Minne was gittin rid a all those hulls, we coulda had a bathtub in every room of the trailer.

if u cut out the back of it, would it make a nice dog house ???? besides, they call under the seat the dogbox

hmm a dog house... it would be water proof.

I pulled everything from the ski, I'll list common stuff on eBay, keep a lot for spares for me (engine!) and what doesn't sell and I can't use will go in boxes in the basement... each winter I plan to rebuild at least 1 951 ski, so I'm sure I'll use it...

as for this GTX seat, the vyinal was 100% destroyed, if you poked it w/your finger it would crack, the foam was NASTY, and the actual plastic support, that makes up the seat... cracked in 1/2.... I wouldn't use it or sell it. it's trash.

I have seen people cut the top off and use them for ice fishing sleds and deer sleds also
