Is there any difference between a "snowmobile" oil and a pwc oil? I can buy Shell snowmobile synthetic 2 stroke oil (API TC) for wayyyy less than amsoil interceptor or xps 2.

I'm running premix so even a few dollars per liter is going to add up fast for me.

Meow. Meow.

I agree... ANOTHER oil thread.

However to answer your question directly. I personally do not like shell skidoo oil. It smokes like a SON of a gun. Is it low ash? because i've seen many people foul plugs in their sleds with the shell. I run amsoil interceptor full synthetic in anything with RAVES.(45$/gal) Yes its money, but money well spent. I personally want to see clear or light brown for synthetic. Not blue like the shell.

Anything else, or beaters, you can get away with castrol skidoo oil. api-tc low ash. for 22.99/gal. Works great, no smoke, just not what i would use for raves. \

Just my 0.02$

I'd looked into the aeroshell TC low ash used by the Rotax ultralight crowd, but unfortunately it's not full synthetic. Those guys are pretty finicky about their oil and thorough in about every way imaginable for some reason, turns out they prefer non-syn b/c the exhaust ports on a 2-stroke sit open to atmosphere at rest, and they discovered increased sleeve corrosion issues when testing full synthetics.

It's pretty well known ester oils absorb water from atmosphere (hygroscopic) and quickly run off of cold surfaces (I think it's a surface tension issue, not sure if counteracting surfactants are blended into XPSII but have doubts).

This is why I use non-syn dino for fogging between uses, and XPSII in my 951 injection system.

Sportster, these are seadoos not a science experiment! C'mon man if this wasn't on seadoo forum I would have no idea you were even talking about engine oil... :)

You have RAVE valves. Any synthetic API-TC will work, regardless of what it's marketed for.

FWIW
if your running amsoil, be sure to look into the dealer discount program, its only $20 a year ($10 for a 6 month trial)

$140 a case delivered right to your door. (at least in the US)
