Checking fuel pump

I'm concerned about blistering on inside of hoses, but suppose I could remove/inspect before replacing. Prolly go with a wire reinforced to improve exhaust flow in water--and no flattening or kinking. Do hoses on other side of muffler degrade and need replacing too?
Definitely need to find good merc shop around here.

I don't know. They're really hard to access. I have monitored the exhaust flow from my two output ports and they seem to be roughly equal, so I haven't worried too much about it. Also, there are no exhaust gases building up in the engine compartment (which would indicate a leak).

Yes, ...I'm more focused on gettin SS grate installed and pump oils changed. Also need to get cables lubed. What's easiest access for this?

I've never had to lube the cables. My C2K lived on an AirDock (boatlift) so it didn't have constant exposure to water. The rubber bellows were always soft with no cracks, and there was never any binding nor roughness in the cable travel.

My fwd/rev and throttle levers do not move easily. I know they should not be too easy, for safety reasons but just wondering if I can access them and use a cable luber. How much cable slack can be had by removing lever housing and pulling it out? This way the lube would travel down by gravity and do a better job. Not sure on mine but I think it's been trailered mostly, although it has seen some salt by the corrosion on hydrosurge and jet housing. Need to sand/paint when I do the pump oils. Does merc sell a specific paint for that?

Yes, Mercury sells a spray enamel specifically for those components. Mercury part number 92-82793350, about $8 per can. One can should be sufficient. Put it on in numerous very light coats, letting each dry for at least 30 but no more than 120 minutes before the next coat.

Local guy didn't have it in stock. Went to HD and got black engine paint for half the price...and has same directions (let dry 30 min but < 2hrs/ and it looks great. Nice n glossy. Still having prolem getting damn big phillip screw loose to lower ride plate. Any suggestions. Will go to Sears this week to see if they have anything bigger than #3. GO TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING!

Yep, loosened both of those w/no problem. It's been in salt because of the corrosion on pump housing, so I figure those 2 phillips crews are coroded into housing. I was able to drop plate somewhat by lowering nuts, but would like full adjustments. Got liquid wrench
soaking down from housing, so I prolly need to get torch and apply some heat to it and bang w/rubber mallet. Almost stripped one screw head using #3 phillips.
