Can I tow a tube or skier with the cleats on my 1996 Speedster?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 1996 speedster and have had a blast towing my daughter and her friends around on a tube. That being said, the tow hook is awfully low, and the rope gets caught up in the wake and wash behind the boat. I was wondering if I could use a ski bridle and hook the bridle onto the cleats and attach a rope to the ski bridle. this would eliminate the rope getting caught up in the wash. I was looking at adding a ski pole to the boat, as the 1996 doesn't come with the pop up pole, but I would rather just utilize the stern cleats if that is safe. I have seen for and against using the cleats and just wanted someone with experience to let me know their thoughts.

Thanks,

Matt

Hey, I did use the cleats but I've read a bunch of articles that say not too. Based on that I stopped. If it's just to get the rope out of the water you might want to buy one of those inflatable balls that goes mid rope. They're like 30-$50 I believe. Got one for Christmas from the kids. At slow speeds for us it keeps the ex long tube rope out of the water.
