I have a 97 GSI with120 hours on the clock. Bought used beginning of last year. Towards the end of season began having acceleration problems...checked fuel for water, replaced fuel filter and plugs...no help. Found the gasket missing on ignition box cover and found coil to be rusted so replaced that as well. Boat starts the day fine but quickly loses the ability to exceed 4500 rpm for any length of time...will surge higher but immediately drops back down. Then it will start becoming harder to start and the throttle response becomes less and less with ski wanting to die. Also I have noticed a 12v low voltage light on display that was not there before...any suggestions?

I would work on one condition at a time. The first being little acceleration. Rebuild carbs. Don't just clean em up. Buy the kits and take your time. Pretty simple but start with that.

Did you clean the filters in the carbs, or the water separator near the fuel tank? What color are the fuel lines? Black or grey?

It may all come back to a rectifier issue.. Simple test,, Charge the battery. Head to the water, unplug the rectifier. If the issue goes away, replace the rectifier. It will NOT charge when the rectifier is unplugged. The fact that you show 12v low is another potential clue to the rectifier.

When it is running, what are the volts at the battery. Should be like 13.5 or slightly better (this is done with the rectifier plugged in).

Do some more reading here. Use the search function in upper right corner. All kinds of info has been posted over the years. You tube has videos on carb rebuilding. OSD Sea Doo parts has rebuild kits and info on their site on carbs. Buy a pop off tester from them. You will need it to do a carb test and test fuel system. Check the gasket on the fuel filter under front hatch. Gasket goes bad and fuel system sucks air instead of fuel at high demand. Don't run ski on land very long if you have a carbon seal in the drive train.

Welcome to the best SeaDoo forum, lots of good info and help here.

The big hint here is with the fuel system. As mentioned above, if you have the gray Tempo fuel lines they need to be replaced (fuel line from auto parts store works just fine), clean out entire fuel system.

Check compression. If you are running lean the engine may have been damaged ... sorry to be the bearer of potential bad news.

Good luck

Thanks for the responses...will start checking the suggestions off the list and see what I come up with. Will update thread as i am able to check them. Thanks Again All!

i cant find any info on where the rectifier is located...have a shop manual but does not show clearly. Can you help? Thanks!

Found rectifier...any way to check it out of the water? Ski does have grey fuel lines that i am changing out. Also did a compression test as suggested-155/150 so that seems good. Going to work on getting carb cleaned up as well.

You can run the ski out of the water without the hose long enough to test to see if the system is charging.

Start it and it should be around 13.4. Rev it and it should exceed 14 volts.

If you have Grey Tempo fuel lines, nothing else matters just yet. They are engine killers as they force a Lean condition and the pistons will eat themselves. You need to replace the lines, pull and rebuild the carbs and internal filters using OEM gaskets, replace the needle and seat as well as the fuel selector.

OK checked voltage at the battery with ski running...12.3 volts
By the way the battery is less than 2 months old...
