Hello, Can anyone help? I recently just tried to start up my 97 Sea Doo Bombardier for the summer and when trying to push the start button it just makes a loud buzz noise. Not a beep but like a wrong answer buzz. It will last as long as you are pushing the button and stops when you release. The red oil light will light up on it when connecting the key. Im sorry im not the best with the terminology of parts. Please help! Thanks so much for your time!

Im not sure... Im new to this. This is what happens. The battery was just put in for the first time this year after being charged all winter. When I connect the "key" pull the choke and hit the start button. It makes a buzzing noise. Kind of like the game operation. The buzz stops when you release the button. That is as far as it goes. It is almost like the motor doesn't have a chance to turn over because the buzz is almost telling you something isn't connected?

O.K., this is just a guess, I'm thinking you have a bad solenoid, short across the top, main terminals of the solenoid, if the starter turns the motor over replace the solenoid, if it doesn't turn over it's probably the starter.

Being that my husband and I are not mechanically inclined when it comes to Sea Doo's Do you know of any good websites for "fix it yourself" or something that will help us locate and identify the parts you listed. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.
Also, could it be the battery is going bad? Would that cause it to make that noise?

Buzzing is almost always a defective battery or poor connection.

Lou is right about the solenoid as they can almost buzz as they vibrate back and forth.

So jump the solenoid to see what happens. But I think you are going to find it is your battery.

Put a meter across the battery terminals and read the voltage. Then while pressing start where do the volts go???

You've found the best site for fixing a SeaDoo yourself, but like anything else it does require a basic knowledge of what you're trying to fix. I would suggest that you download an operator's manual and a repair manual for your ski. You can download them from this site if you become a premium member or just do a google search.

Do you have a website that will help show me where this is located or how to do this?

Thanks Again for your help!

Before you go to far,,, can you put a meter on the battery and tell me what the voltage is ???

I hate to see you waste your time "guessing"....

There will be a fairly heavy read wire that runs from the battery to the starter solenoid. Then on the other side of the solenoid the red wire will continue down to the starter. At the solenoid you want to take a large pair of pliers or two screw drivers and jump from one red wire to the other. This is "jumping the solenoid".. If it cranks, then your battery is good, the connections are good, and the solenoid is defective.

Again, this is ASSUMING that you have good voltage. Without good volts from the battery, NOTHING else matters. This is why I am hounding you on the volts from the battery..

Coastiejoe.... this is the information im looking for "how to do it" Now whe you say Jump from one red wire to the other.... what does that mean? I am going to take and have the battery tested tonight when I get home ( i don't have a battery meter at home)
I will post once Im home with results...Everyone has already been a big help!

So I switched the battery and now it has stopped buzzing but now just cranks. I do know I have bad gas sitting in there I need to clear out however what should I test now. Thanks so much!

Ok,,,

You will want to confirm spark. Best/safest way is with a spark tester. Old fashioned way is to pull a wire, pull a plug, put plug back onto wire, make sure bottom of spark plug is grounded on the engine. Crank engine and look for spark at the base of the plug.

I'm guessing you will have spark but we MUST know to go further.

Assuming you do, I'm betting you have Grey Tempo fuel lines. If so, all fuel lines need replaced, fuel selector valve needs cleaned, filters inside carbs need cleaned, and the line between the carbs needs replaced. There is a chance the carbs will need to be rebuilt but at a minimum you must do the other things I listed.

The issue is, the Grey lines are allergic to the ethanol in today's fuel. It creates a green gunk in the lines. This restricts the fuel your carbs get and will DESTROY your engine due to a lean condition.
