It floats and idles is a good start.
If you hit the gas and its goes then make him a offer.

Check compression if you can. Should be at 150.

Where in Fl are you

ft myers, its a lady selling it cause shes moving so i wont be able to check comp.....i looked at it already just need to ride it!! she is asking $1100....

Go to discount and get one. Its 25 bucks to make sure it has a good top end..

its only worth 1100 if the motor is healthy.

You need to be able to drop a battery, turn it over, check the gauge for hrs, fuel sensor works, and the VTS too.

Compression...then if all checks out 1100 is a decent deal.

It will run even at about 125, but will need a rebuild soon....more than just rings.
If it's between 130-140, use that info to get the price lowered, under under 130 , really lower the offer. Rebuilds can cost $400 + with your labor or up to $1K with a 1-2 yr no fault warranty from a shop.

Use the proper method of checking compression...WOT, no fogging oil, some people recommend a warm engine, plugs grounded.

NEVER assume top end job on a jetski. ALWAYS assume if you have a bad top end the bottom needs work too.

should be 160psi...somewhere close with very similar numbers on both sides is what you wanna see. All gauges show different.

Also take note...the couple of GSIs I have delt with had Flywheel issues; the ring gear moves... then its unbalanced and the woodruff key breaks. It was really bad on the first one I got, and that one only had 50hrs on it. The other one the gear had moved and it was wobbly on the crank.

This is 2 machines out of 1000s, but something you should be aware of.

if you need a real mechanic to check it out, give it the once over, run a comp test, yada yada,
pm me, there's good mechanic I can recommend, very trustworthy, and very reasonable,
he works on all my stuff ! I live in the Cape, he's out in lehigh.
a test ride is a good idea, a comp test is a great idea !
thats an "ok" price for a good running ski, clear title, decent trailer.
your not stealing it by any means., i sold a gti similar to that for about $1400 last year with new turf, paint, and a perfectly running engine on a POS trailer, this is comparable, but hasn't been looked over,
when buying used, they're usually selling it for a reason...
i've sold a few ski's in my day, and according to craigslist, i probably moved 5 times last year :)
or,, my wife wants it out of the garage, and,, i've even had two 717's that were "too fast for me"
in other words,, assume the worst and hope for the best
but one small mechanical issue can turn into a big one really really fast !

I bought the same model 3 years ago off of craigslist. I paid $1000, it looked great and the compression was perfect. The guy had the same story, he was moving and it had to go. He had it listed for $1500 and said it just needed a battery. So I took a battery and everything looked good so after I checked the compression and found that the trim didn't work and the gauges didn't work I offered $1000 he took it without hesitating. I got home replaced a fuse and the gauges worked, the trim still didnt work but that's a common problem. I got it to the water and realized why he took my offer so quick. It started fine I hit the throttle and it was hesitating and wouldn't top out, then I got back to shore took off the seat and there was 6 inches of water. The throttle problem was an easy fix, I just cleaned the carbs and replaced all the grey fuel lines with new lines. The problem with the hull filling up with water I still couldn't figure out. I put the gsi in the water with it not running for 20 minutes, there was no water in it. I started it with the seat off and I saw water coming in the bailer lines so I replaced the lines cleaned the elbows and hung them in the hull high up. Still coming in, I found the trim was set to low and created a reverse suction. I manually adjusted the trim and I've never had another problem with it to date. Long story short sellers will say anything to get your money. He probably couldn't find the source of his leak and that's why I got it cheap then. Good luck, it's a fun seadoo and I love mine I've changed the appearece of mine quite a bit.

ok guys...i bought it!!!! comp is a little over 150!! runs like a CHAMP!!! fast!!! the only thing that seems to be the problem is the vts doesnt work.....so I think i need to replace the motor but i will ohm it first to see... just needs a little TLC, but i got it for $1000 what can i say...thanks for the help!!!

Good deal!

You can apply power directly to the motor wires to see if the VTS motor works or not. If you need a replacement housing or motor I have many available as well as VTS boots and the correct clamps. There is a Fuse on the MPEM for the VTS...7.5 amp

Make sure to do all the other general maintenance; Carb rebuild, new fuel lines, change pump oil, etc.
