Brand new engine failure

Did you use 3 bond on the intakes ? New base gasket for carbs? Follow the carb rebuild sticky to a T?

Haven't put the new engine back in yet, but I'll be sure to 3-bond the intake when I put that on. Followed the carb sticky exactly. I have new carb base gaskets as well

Question about the new engine break-in procedure. I understand the procedure, but on this ski it takes FOREVER because of the large fuel tank. The tank capacity is 15 gallons, and the SBT procedure for engine break-in says to do the on-for-30-minutes off-for-30-mintes for the first 10 gallons, but then it also says the first tank of gas. For me those are not the same thing (15 gallon tank). So is the first part of the break-in procedure done after the fist 2/3 of a tank for me? Meaning, after the first 10 gallons can I stop doing the alternating running-cooling thing and start the second part of the break-in (no more than 90% throttle still varying)?

So the method I have used for 25 years and goes back to Group K.

Heat cycling is what you are after....

First 1/2 tank, premix and oil injection, no more than quarter throttle varying the throttle the entire time with stops to cool down every 15-20 minutes.
Next 1/2 tank, no more than 1/2 throttle 20-30 minutes.

Second tank, only premix or oil injection, not both, first 1/2 no more than 3/4 throttle same heat cycles.
last 1/2 of second tank you can go full throttle but never hold it wide open heat cycling isn't as important.

The difference between the smallest tank at 10 gallons to 15 isn't that bad and you can't hurt anything by doing a little longer break-in.

Yes, it sucks and is agonizing but do it once and do it correct.
