First time out in 3 months on 2001 GTI. stopped after couple of minutes,realized fuel tank in off position. Opened up after a couple of min and she ran great for about 30 minutes then dropped power from 45 to 35 MPH. What could the problem be?

Check the fuel water separator, Change the plugs also. It could be that the gas in the tank wasn't the cleanest and it caused it to foul the plugs.
