Beeper not working, finicky starting

96 gtx 787, no beeps, i tried pushing the start button five times without the key in. Nothing. Everything works fine, engine starts, gauges work, just no beeps. The start switch is also finicky. It never fails to start, but I might have to press the start switch 10 times or more before it starts, it acts like the button isn't even pressed when it doesnt work. Its random, sometimes it starts on the first try, sometimes it takes more than 10 times. Its been doing this for about 2 years...i figure its time to fix it. Any ideas on what I should check first? Thanks!

start by cleaning the key and the post with warm soapy water.

for the beeper, Karl found that Radio Shack has something similar to oem, for 10-15 buks..
