Beach anchor...what are you guys using?

i have a urethane coated danforth style pwc anchor i got off amazon for like 15-20 bucks, it couldn't dig in on its own into the hard bottom, and i ended up having to find a soft spot and dive down and stick it into the bottom on my own. held fine after that. sounds like you had some rough water pulling your anchor loose, so you either want more weight or more holding (digging) power with bigger blades on the anchor if the bottom is soft enough to dig in.

Try the Sand Shark JR. I tried a few last year and they kept coming loose. This thing is stainless and it screws into the sand and it does not come loose. Not cheap, but works great.

i have two anchors,,, a bell bottom and a claw type, i prefer the bell when I do use it (not often), it's just heavy enough that it will keep one ski from drifting away, but not two.. (ask me how I know this 
)
re: sand shark,, it DOES work, but i'm cheap so I just bought a screw in dog leash thing at home depot for $5 and it works just as well, but it did rust, so i put about 9 coats of black paint on it, and its better now...
but 98% of the time I just beach it, drag it up a tad, and go about my biz

Hmmm...never thought about the dog leash anchor...and I happen to have a dozen or so built for my 85lb dog. Going to toss one in the hull storage and try that out next time.
We had some pretty rough water yesterday, but on sunday it was pretty calm. The anchor wasn't holding at all, so I was stuck dragging both machines back out every few minutes. The guys with the sand bags never had to make a single adjustment.
I'm going to give the dog anchor a try since I've already got that...but I might see about taking the sewing machine and building one of those sand bags.

Well, I was just reading reviews on some of the sand bags, and one of the first that popped up was "not good for rougher waters on lake Erie"....which is exactly where I ride
I like that sand shark, and I feel like I could build one in the garage, maybe a stop at the hardware store on the way home to look at some materials. It'll be fresh water only, so I can slap some paint on it.

A little googling and I found that harbir freight sells a 4 pack of "shelter augers" 15 inches long, for $19.99.
Going to stop and grab a set on the way home. I'm sure I can come up with a t handle of sorts to make it easier to put in, and I'll have one for each ski and 2 spares.

if you figure out an easy rig for the T-handle.. please please PM me pic's or spec's,,, i'd like to have one as well, right now i just hold my breath and do it the hard way , which sucks !!!
I Ended up pulling the onto the beach yesterday, but they were getting beat pretty bad. It seems like a lot less work to anchor them out a little ways and save my back. We've also got a seaweed issue, and after being against the beach, they were tangled up.

i agree, pulling up on the sand on a light wave day with no boat wakes banging you around is just fine, i do it ALL the time, but when i'm in big water, with wave action and boat wakes, pulling them up just doesn't cut it... you need an anchor, makes life much easier.

agree with you on the getting beat up!!! i ride huron ALL THE TIME in tawas and the shore is full of rocks and i scratch my hull up alot so i now use a screw in dog lease stake with a SHORT rope and it dont go anywhere

yes i am but i did modify mine a little..I cut it in hafl and added more to it to make it longer so the cork screw an go down in further...If you go that routs make sure you screw it ALL THE WAY flat to the ground i have had people trip over mine before and you dont want anyone getting hurt

Here is how i hook mine up.....i take the rop and tie it to the stake and screw it in level with the ground ..then i take the other end of the rope and put it through the hook on the BACK of the ski (where u hook up a hope for tubing) and then run it under the ski to the front hook and pull it tight so the ski dosent have any slak to rip the stake out of the ground...putting it through both hooks front and back helps to eliminate slack

Hah, the storage in the wishbone hull is such a joke, How the heck would you make a fix out on the water if you needed to? Just chuck the bin so you can change the plugs?

Yep.. you are right. Most of the lakes I'm on aren't "Choppy".
Back in the day... I used some stands that I made from PVC pipe. I would set them up so they were just at the water level. Then, I would slide my skis up on them.
