Battery Recommendation

Hi All,

We're still working on our fuel issues, but in the meantime we've discovered that our battery doesn't hold a charge. Previous owner bought this one late last year, but it looks like a cheapo.

What brand/types do you recommend?

Thanks,

I can't remember my battery brand off hand, but make sure you take it out every winter and put it on a piece of wood, not concrete so that it keeps the charge. Of course, I'm assuming you have a deep cycle battery. I had one that kept losing charge a few years ago and the problem was that the bilge pump kept trying to run and was draining the battery when it was sitting in my driveway. I would charge the battery, install it and then the next time I went boating, it was dead. The way I found the bilge on was when my boat was in a quiet garage and I heard this whirring sound and that was the bilge pump. The bilge pump sensors were bad so that it ran all the time and needed to be replaced.
I've also heard about people leaving their stereo or lights on and that will also drain the battery very quickly.
So, you may have a device draining the battery that you don't even realize it.

Every spring I charge the battery all the way for at least 4 hours outside of the boat. I watch the charging and stop charging either by the charger shutoff or until the water bubbles out the top of the battery.

Battery Brand Recommendation?

Thanks for the response, but no it's not any of those things. We always carefully make sure everything is off and turn the battery to off. And even if we completely disconnect the battery, it discharges after about a week to the point of not being able to start.

We really need to replace it.

So, what brands do people here recommend? I've personally had bad experiences with Never Starts, errrr, I mean Ever Starts . One of the marine places had a couple different Interstate batteries?

Thanks all!

As a rule of thumb, I purchase a new battery each year. I get mine at Walmart and it runs about $65.00. That way, I know that I won't get stuck. Also, if the battery doesn't hold the charge, I can take it back and swap it for a new one and get running again the same day.
