Ok so I rode the 97 spx on Wednesday. Everything was fine. Came home and flushed it. Started up no prob for flush. Come Sunday attemp to start it and the battery is low, not dead but low. It only sat for 4 days. The battery is new and is a glass mat ac delco amazon special. This machine has DESS and I know it consumes some voltage but not able to start after 4 days? Something is up here. How long have you guys parked your ski then went to start it and it was fine. Should I have to charge it every week?

This battery an "AMAZON special only has 6 month warranty on it......so how good can it be from the get-go?

Holy crap 5 weeks???? Damn there is def something wrong with it. Something is draining the battery or it is not charging. I guess I should start with checking voltage on running engine then rectifier...

I always disconnect 1 battery lead, even if its only for overnight, lots of weird things can draw a battery down, vts, surface discharge, etc,

I've had machines that would start after an entire winter of sitting with no battery tender or charging. You have a significant draw somewhere, or a crap battery.

I made the mistake of buying a WalMart battery for one of mine in a rush to get on the lake.... Huge waste of time and energy.

i think we all agree,
first its probably a charging issue
second, its the battery if those issues are eliminated.
i'm leaning to ski issue, but keep in mind I have NO faith in cheap batteries.

I sometimes forget to turn off the battery switch for weeks and have no problems. My battery is much larger than yours though, probably.

Does your ski have a bilge pump? Some of those things turn themselves on automatically about every 3 seconds or so, stupidest design ever, IMO. Maybe okay for recreational purposes only and great for battery salesmen getting kickbacks on bilge pumps.

Anyway, could be leaky charging rectifier or even that surge suppressor buried in most MPEM's might be leaking. Wire an ammeter in series with the battery then start yanking connectors out of the circuit till the drain disappears.

Most all batteries are crap anymore, if one cell doesn't s**t the bed the first year then the internal swaged lead connectors loosen and corrode so use a backing wrench when tightening the the fasteners so as not to put stress on the terminals. Prorated warranties are for a reason.

Batteries by mail? I don't think I've ever received a package shipped through UPS or FED-EX that wasn't crushed in transit, even those guys unloading batteries off the Interstate-Battery truck throw those things around and stack them on top of each other which can turn them into nice door stops b/c of the poor construction methods.

Well I ordered a rectifier from fleabay. New. I haven't checked ski yet but I figured its good insurance..,

Ok so here is the update... Turns out the amazon ac delco battery was bad. Took it out and load tested it and BEEP...BAD. LUckily it was stll under warranty and the sent me another and it arrived the next day. Wow. We had a rough week weather wise so I just got to install new batt and check charging system since I bought a new rectifier thinking it wasn't charging. Oh well. Any one else have issues with the AMAZON AC DELCO batteries???

I've still got mine sitting on a shelf, but I'm not surprised, the first thing I noticed was it was made in Viet Nam.
