Ok.. So normally I store my boat inside my fathers huge garage during the winter and when I dont plan on using the boat for a long period of time during the summer.. Well the last time I took her out I didnt think it would have been the last time.. Now with the upcoming storm it hit me that I never put her away.. Have had her out in the yard.. So I decide that now would be a great time to bring her down to the garage.. I had a cover on her but did not put in the anti pooling poles.. So I go out and see some water is sitting on top of the cover.. I also noticed it was a little wet in the rear by the right drain plug.. Didnt really think anything of it.. I go to hook her up and realize its a lot heavier then normal.. but I get her on the hitch and all i hear is water pouring out.. I look and in the rear it was coming out the port side drain plug, not the starboard.. And the bilge pump outlet on the starboard side was gushing water out.. it continued to come out for well over a minute straight.. was shooting out about 2-3 feet from the boat.. i would have to double check as i am only thinking of it now but i think i had the battery switch to off meaning that the boat was not getting power so I am thinking the there was no power to the bilge pump.. I let it sit until it fully drained.. I didnt have the key so I didnt try starting it.. Just curious if all this water sitting could have damaged anything or if it should be ok.. it could only have been rainwater but im worried that it could have gotten to some kind of major component that it could have damaged the boat.. If this is not ok then what should I check before trying to start? I appreciate any input....

hi there your bilge pump is wired directly to battery so it runs even when battery switch is off. have had lots of water in mine before, you will be fine.

From the factory... it's not necessarily on the battery. Most are set up on the switch. So... if your switch is off... so it the pump.

When your boat is on the trailer... you should have it level, or slightly nose up... and the transom plugs out. That way... any rain water that gets in... will drain out.

Since you had that much water in the hull... I would start the engine for a minute, and visually verify EVERYTHING ! DO NOT put it to bed wet. If you do... you may find rotten parts in the spring.

Since you said that you didn't plan this... I would make sure to winterize the boat before the snow hits.

From all I've read, and how the pump on my 05 Sportster operates, the sump pump is indeed on the battery and will operate regardless of the battery switch position..
