Hello All,

I just picked up a few Seadoos last week. I had a 94 Xp back in 02-03, sold it in 03 cause only one friend I knew owned a water craft. I was sick of the "can I ride it" or "can I ride on it with you".
So I went to dirt cause they all had dirtbikes or Atv's. I built a few long rod Yamaha banshees did that for a few years, then places were getting far an few in between to ride an sold em.
So here I am a decade later an my friends start getting some Doos after I pointed them to the Xp's. So after my friends picked theirs up, they started harassing me, well not really they just left their ski's here cause I live on a canal. I couldnt stand those 2 Xp's calling out to me lol.

So I hit good ol Craigslist up an found a 93 Xp for sale for $500 guy said it wouldnt start an their is "oil coming out the exhaust" an he thought the battery may be bad.
I chuckled in my head about the oil out the exhaust. So I drive an hour their, the oil comming out the exhaust was blackish, I figured fogging oil. I took the seat off to find injector oil everywhere it wasnt the same oil coming from the exhaust smell was differant. The reservoir was just under the seam with oil so I assumed it may have a split seam. I noticed the top end has been off cause the wear on the head bolts an the blue gasket under the cylinders. It was on a trailer I offered $400 an we agreed on $450. I power washed the oil out of the hull, put a new battery in, checked compression 153 per side. Tried to start it but had no spark. So I started with the basics, cut back the coil wires back an inch an it fired right up. Hooked it up to the garden hose an ran it an it blew a ton of black oil out. It finally cleared up an was running great. I havnt water tested it just yet but soon, Im still trying to go threw it an I still have to investigate the injector oil in the hull mystery.

I picked that Xp up cause it was a cheapish gamble, So I was still looking for what I wanted which was a 787. Found a 98 Spx for sale down the road an it was pretty clean. He was asking $1700 but said he would take $1500 ski only. I check it out an the VTS was broke. I tried to get it for $1300 but he wasnt taking no less than the $1500 cause the season was just starting an it will be gone soon for that price. I ended up buying it, I havnt seen to many of them around here an I read its the lightest X4. So I get it home pull the VTS cover to find a nasty corroded motor. So bought a new motor an I am having issuse with the 5amp fuse in the coil box thats next to the battery in the rear. I have studied this page here http://www.sea-doo.net/techarticles/vts/index.html but it isnt helping with my problem so I will be starting a thread for it soon.

I look forward to the vast amount of info here an the great people, I found the X4 thread an I am only at page 30 so lots to go their lol.

Here are the Doo's

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum. The XP is O.K., but I love the 98SPX, my favorite X4. Congratulations, nice to have you back in the fold.

I'd say that VTR motor is toast, I think it's the same motor like for a 94 Nissan window motor, or something, I'll dig around and see if I can find the thread. If the VTR is in the same shape you might want to consider a used unit, Minnetonka4me probably has one at a fair price.

Seascum, welcome to the forum.
Those 2 skis are "awesome" clean for their age.
What did you use to clean them?

Also, where is LSC, MI? Abbreviated for?????

See the Michigan thread in my signature line below.

Yes Lou its a window motor for a 300zx or to that effect. I bought a new one on ebay for $65. Got it installed an my 5amp fuse pops when I press the VTS button, it doesnt do it instantly but intermittently I guess. I dont know it I put the rod in an didnt have it adjusted rite an it blows when maxed out??? Not sure. It doesnt blow when I have the vts disconnected at all, running or not or pressing the button.

Seadoobuddy I havnt cleaned them yet, thats the way I bought them. Im waiting till all wrenching is done cause I know ill have greasy hand an finger prints all over them by the time Im done. From what I have read here, Meguires extra cut for the hull an soft scrub, an lighter fluid or soak in bleach for the handlebar pad.

Oh an LSC is Lake St Clair, an youre signature isnt showing up. I may need to change that in my forum settings.
