I was swapping engines in my 1996 Speedster and the engine that came out of my 97 speedster parts boat was a single carb 787. I was swapping rotary valve covers, and chased the threads with a tap that hold the cover on. After I finished, i realized one of the bolt holes for the cover apparently goes all the way through into the crankcase!!

Should I worry about the little bit of shavings that may have possibly entered the crankcase? I think so. How should I now go about making sure the shavings are removed?

IF the holes go all the way into the crankcase just mix a little premix in a bottle and squirt some into the intake port and it will wash it out through the hole.

if you used the right size tap shouldnt be any shavings, maybe some leftover loctight and maybe micro scopic alluminum . Depends on how aggressively you ran the tap through also>

Your probably right. There was a little bit of very fine shaving and junk on the tap when I finished all four holes. I think I'm just going to vacuum the area behind the hole with a piece of tubing and blow out the crankcase with air.
