Just picked up two seedoos this weekend One is a 1996 hx and the other is a 1994 xp, Both have been sitting for at least 3 to 4 years. hx not stripped to bad. but xp has been stripped pretty bad. WHERE DO I START???????

charge the battery pull the plugs and see if it turns over, check the spark, pull the carbs and clean them clean fuel tank, fresh fuel fresh oil, new plugs, check the fuel lines replace if grey, that should get you started, oh yah check compression in their before pulling carbs, (so you dont waste money rebuilding/cleaning carbs and replacing lines.....
good luck

Here is some information on the compression test. This is the first thing to do on that old a seadoo.
You'll need a compression tester. Go to Auto Zone. I think they sell for like $25.00. The compression gage, will screw in the cylinder head in place of the spark plugs. To test compression, remove both spark plugs. Place spark plug caps on the plug cap studs near the cylinder head to ground the empty caps. This completes the circuit of the ignition electrical system and prevents any electrical problems from the caps being un grounded. Using the correct adapter for the threaded end of the tester,( same length of the spark plug threads length)screw in the tester in one plug hole. Hold the throttle wide open. Push the start button. Watch the compression gauge, when it peaks out at the most compression, let go the start button. Read the psi number. I would do it 3 times to be sure it is accurate. Check both cylinders the same way. The ideal compression is 150 psi per cylinder. If it is less, it's not a problem as long as they are close to being the same. If the psi is less than 90 it might need be time for a tear down and a rebuild. If the psi in 1 cylinder is say 140 psi and the other is 80 psi you need to tear down and repair. This difference is a lot then there is a problem. I hope this helps you.

If you need a battery go to like Auto Zone and get a replacement one. For any other seadoo parts go to out "Parts" link at the top of the page.

Nick I did everything you said except rebuild the carbs.tried starting without rebuilding them but there is no gas flow to them at all. do I have to rebuild them for gas to flow. by the way everything else checked out great

Karl I did everything you said. Everything looks great but there is no gas flow to the carbs. What should I check now I have the rebuild kits but is that neccesary to get fuel?

check the fuel selector valve, They can get clogged up with junk from the grey lines. switch it to reserve and try starting see if it starts. If you still have no fuel, bypass the valve completely and see if you have fuel flowing to the carbs. There is a small filter in the carbs that gets pretty dirty due to the deterioration of the grey fuel lines and the selector valve.

Chewyjr15 is correct. If you aren't getting fuel it could be the small internal filters in the carb that are clogged. Check the switch first the the pull the carbs apart if it still isn't getting fuel to the carbs.

Thanks

Turned on the reserve and it started right up! WOW that was great!!!!!!
So I guess the next step is to replace all the gas lines? Should I go ahead and rebuild the carbs??????
Thanks again guys
Pat

id go ahead and replace the selector valve as well. I did it to both my skis and i think they were like 25 bucks each or something. The fuel lines as well, and clean and rebuild the carbs and make sure to really clean the little filter well.
