Ads that are not quite the truth....

Let's start a new thread about the ads that you have seen that when you saw the item, it didn't quite match the ad description.

Such as "ran good last time I used it"....but the last time it ran was 7 yrs ago and sat outside uncovered and not winterized and now the plugs are rusted to the block.

There must be some horror stories out here..especially from Dr, Bill, Minnetonka, Chester and so on, and also from Australia,UK, etc.

Post pics if you have them.

Have a  while watching the big game.

I see it all the time. So much so, that I kind of get pissed about it.

I have a few....

1) The XP I bought this summer: They weren't asking much, and it was "Clean"... but it sat since 2006, so it had the normal issues. (Tempo hoses, carbs, battery, etc) To someone like me... it's not a big deal... but to anyone else, this would have been a nightmare. Also... the axle bearings were totally gone in the trailer. (as in, the hub could be slid over the nut) Here again, not a big deal, but I had to rebuild the hub in this girls garage before I could get it out. And finally... the ski was still in the last persons name, and the trailer title was still in her EX-huband's name.

Everything worked out in the end for me... but the other person who I beat out was coming up from WV (about a 2 hour drive) and I'm sure he wouldn't have been happy with all the problems.

2) A ski at the lake:

At the beginning of the season, there was a very nice 97 GSX being sold at the local lake. They were beached directly by me, and I offered my help in getting it going. After getting it started, it also had all the issues of a mid 90's ski, so it hardly ran. They guy who owned it kept saying it was just old gas... but I started to explain all the real issues. Needless to say, the owner was getting pissed because he was asking prime $$$ for it. (It was extra clean) I told the buyer to give me a call if he bought it... and I also said... "Don't buy it if you can get a real test ride."

The exact story was... "Ran great last time it was out." But, that was 2 years ago.

I don't know if he bought it or not... but I never heard from him. (I gave him my biz card)

It's not. That was a lot of work to put it in there.

BUT............

I would buy that just for the engine. That engine, and the electronics is worth more than the asking price. Basically... I would buy it, and par it out.

ocod, The biggest question is "why". Yep, nice here this time of year, seadoos put away, snow sleds out.

If you are tired of paying mortgage bills, utility bills, & property taxes.

Just become part of the 'trailer trash' Crowd.

The following really isn't a bad ad....just the opposite.

I picked up on it right away Lou. It doesn't say what the fire extinguisher is worth. Probably not OEM but a cheap replacement.

Are those 2 pictures of the same ski? Doesn't appear to me to be... Also different trailer.

I had one last year where I went to go look at a 99 gtx clean runs good 900.00 in the ad...I get there and they had gutted the whole ski and sold the trailer.the pics they had were from when they were running it on the lake. So I drove 4 hours there and back for nada.

Damn. If I was on the jury, I would have voted that you were not guilty.

don't get me started on that. that sucker should have fried. But you would have been justified, 4 hr drive for nothing.

..I had some oj thoughts running through my head after it happened... the gloves I had actually fit my hands...so there was no way I could get acquitted after they surrounded my bronco. Maybe if Johnny Concran was still around I could get a couple of tips.

I saw an ad on Craigslist for a 95 XP Limited under $1K. The pic that was posted didn't match the correct color scheme. I emailed her and she said it was a pic of a similar ski. I mentioned the colors were wrong and she insisted it was a 95 XP limited as stated on the title.
I went there to verify it and right on the side was SPX no XP. I didn't bother checking the motor and left.
She has since removed the ad. DUH......

Luckily I was going that way anyways.

If it was an SPX its a 97 or later XP, if it's in good shape and you can pick it up for less than a grand it's still a great deal. It's still a 800, if it's still available I'd go back and check it out. Since it's an newer it could very well be a better deal than if it was a 95XP800.

Added, I want to clarify, it's not really a 97XP, what it is it's the same ski as a 96XP it has the X4 hull.
