99 XP no start, no beep

New Sea Doo owner. 99 XP that a friend had on a trickle charger with the battery in boat. I now know thats not good after reading this forum. Now the engine will not turn over. With the lanyard on, no beeps but gauges seem to work. With the start button pressed, it sounds like the starter is turning but the bendix (or whatever a sea doo starter has) is not engaging the flywheel. All 6 fuses are good on the MPEM. Battery voltage is good. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sounds like its not engaging, give it a few little taps to free it up if its stuck, you may need to take it off and have a look, but dont let water get in there

Just check the buzzer by applying battery voltage to it. No sound. I believe i may have two seperate problems. Bad buzzer for one, and a stuck bendix on the starter? Will try to access the starter next. thanks for the info.

pulled starter and found starter shaft teeth rounded off. Of course the gear that the starter turns is bad with broken teeth also. Is that the flywheel or just an idler gear?

Silvercorvette, man I love those Vets. The part your referring to is part of the magneto fly wheel. Hope that helps.

a 99 xp has a starter drive that is turned by the starter and the drive turns the flywheel. if the teeth are like 1/16 of an inch it is the teeth on the starter drive. you will have to pull the exhaust and front cover off to get to the starter drive.
