Hey,
Have a 99GSX Ltd. I am replacing starter on. While doing that I noticed there are no shims on any motor mount. The local dealer won't work on anything this old so I am looking for some advice about alignment. I was thinking of installing the pump without the shaft bumpers and without the Carbon Seal set-up. This should allow me to align the engine until the shaft floats forward and back with little friction. Then, pull the pump and finish assembling it. Any thoughts?

Also, can I replace the current Carbon / Hat get up with the old style bearing and seal? Will it fit the shaft ok and will it work?

In theory, putting the engine in like that will work, but probably not fun. The alignment is crucial. Can aid in premature failure of the spines, pump bearings, wear ring, and cause vibrations in the drive line.

From everything I have ready you can use the old style bearing seal.
