Not to hijack, is the water reg the same as the water valve? So if I have a small stream of water coming from the back of my 97 Challenger while idling and under way, that means my water valve on my resonator is bad? I thought that was an indicator that the cooling system was working.. I had opened the valve up and everything looked intact. No melted connectors in the exhaust system. The only thing that was questionable was the fact that the water valve is able to rotate on the brass fitting, at least the amount of slack allowed by the small hoses off the valve. Thanks
You should see no water coming from anywhere on the water regulator (actually is the water control valve), black with red cap. If you do, more than likely have a torn diaphragm inside the cap. 99% of the time the metal clamp pokes a hole in it. Then you're not feeding the correct amount of water internally to the pipe to keep it cool. I put them back together with the original upper clamp and a narrow cable tie on the bottom. Just clip it close and use a finger nail or ignition file to smooth the cable tie out. You can remove the cap, pull the "piston" or "plunger" or what ever you call it all the way out and then disassemble just the moving parts on the bench. Just leave the housing on the water box. The part you remove should "click in" when you put it back together. Just had one apart a week ago for leaking water on my bro in laws ski.....torn diaphragm was the culprit and the lower clamp completely rotted away.
