97 xp won't start? doesn't beep

Do you have a shop manual for this? If so you can look through trouble shooting section and perform those test. In the end, if still no start or 2 beep post, it will more than likely say test mpem. I have not heard of any sure way to test these other than dealer tester. Might want to see how much that is. If your mpem is bad you can check on this.

I may have to get one also. Mine post and turns over fine but no spark. I replaced coil yesterday (no spark still) and have a new CDI coming Monday (hoping to have spark after this). If still not getting spark it is with the stator goodies or mpem. If mpem I will more than likley try the MSD route and see what happens. This is much cheaper than the mpems I am finding on ebay.

alright then.....1 long beep while installing the lanyard or already installed while pressing the start stop button..........safty lanyard onswitch more then 10 mins w/out starting engine,badd connection,wrong lanyard,defective lanyard,dried salt water in cap of lanyard, improper operation of the MPEM or defective wiring harness..........
