Hello,

I just bought a 97 Seadoo XP and there is no power to the gauges and beeping when connecting the key to its post.

Guy said it ran before he winterized it and wasn’t sure what was wrong with it.

When pushing the start button there is no clicking at the solenoid or cranking of the engine. The VTS does not work either.

I did jump the solenoid and there was sparks and the engine sounded like it wanted to crank.

I also ran jumper cables to from the negative post of the battery to the negative side of the solenoid and nothing when connecting the key or trying to start.

15 fuse was blown in the electrical box and one of the wires seemed melted, replaced both. checked all the other fuses along with unconnecting And reconnecting wires to the mpem.

Still nothing.

Any ideas what could be my issue? Could it be the solenoid or the key post?

I know there are other posts out there related to this but others seemed to still have vts working.

Thank you for any help.

I have a DI and with the 15A fuse blown I dont get beeps or starter but the fuel pump does kick in. So not sure about yours.
Have you tried checking with a multimeter/test light to see if you get power anywhere?

I am not hearing the fuel pump kick in. So far I have replaced the starter solenoid, and the dess post with an after market one (not sure if it’s the correct one but wires up correctly) am waiting for a used oem one just incase.

Using a test light I have power to the starter solenoid where the power line comes in from battery (not on left side when I try and hit the key) the fuses are signaling with the multimeter in the electric box and on the mpem. There is power in the fuses on the mpem as well.

Kinda lost where to start next…

Does anyone have a pic of the ebox for this exact model just to make sure everything is connected right in there? Looking at pictures online, I see that the fuse is hooked up to the left side of the starter solenoid ( mine is on the right where the power comes in)

If everything has power then one would thing the post and key works.
Have you tried to look at the fuel pump or beeper to see if those gets power?
Know someone with a BUDS system to plug in and look at error codes?

haven’t been able to get to a buds system yet, but I did take some pics of the mpem. One of the prongs looks like it burnt or got hot. One looks slightly corroded.BF8F3FBB-1FA5-489E-81D9-B371D809A728.png4BA79B2E-68B8-45D1-ADD9-3BFBEE52AB41.png7AE72518-A5AD-4876-9F12-E42BFE995E5D.jpeg

I had the same issue with a 96 xp.

I had the same issue with a 96 xp. If vts doesn't work remove the fuse for it or it will continue to cause problems such as melted wires. Also make sure plug that connects to stator is in. Had a guy winterize mine and he unplugged it for w.e. reason and couldn't get it to start until I found it unplugged.

97 has kinda the same set up but this has everything going into the mpem.as the 96 had a few different relays.as for your 96 they make a trim fix kit for those and have used them on several skis work pretty good

Try looking to see if all the cables are attached to their connection location. I ran into the same problem as I was doing a full renovation on my Speedster 150. I forgot to plug in the instrument panel plug and my Seadoo would not start. Once I plugged up the cable to the instrument panel it started right up. Hope this helps.
