I have had a 97 GTX for about a four months. I know i may have a sensor issue but not sure where to start and how to test. The warning lights I am getting are low oil (tank is full), hi temp (only just started to motor) low voltage (never had a problem with the batt voltage is about 13 or so)......Any ideas to get me in the right direction...

Thanks again
Aaron

Temp, Low Oil

I can help you with the temp. and low oil, I don't know about the charging circuit.

The temp. sensor is located on the top of the head between the two spark plugs.

The low oil sensor is located in the top of the oil tank, its a float type sensor.

Is there any way to test before u buy new sensors, I just want to make sure that is the problem and not something else.

Sensors

Oil sensor, unplug the sensor, the light should go out, short the two pins on the sensor connector the light should go on, I might have this backwards, anyway if the light goes on and off the sensor is bad. If the light stays on you have a short in the wiring.

Temp. sensor, remove the sensor and place in a pan on the stove with a thermometer the sensor should open at around 180-200 degrees (I'm just guessing here) does anyone know what this spec. is ?

Hi, following this thread, I also have a 97 GTX, 787 engine. Had issue where it would run fine, and then just stop, like you pulled the lanyard off. Normally would start right back up again if you unplug DESS key and put back on, but sometimes you would get Hi-temp warning. Have replaced the sensor and checked all wiring. Even went as far as putting in another MPEM computer, but still same issue, and you can feel engine, it is not hot. If you do the 5 push on start button with out the DESS key plugged in you will also get the Hi-temp warning. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks
