97 GTS won’t run

I’ve got a 1997 sea doo GTS that will start while pulling the choke but dies after 30 seconds or so and it won’t run without a choke. I did a full engine rebuild on this ski and rebuilt its single carb but it still won’t run right and I don’t know what’s wrong or how to figure it out. It sat for about 15 years after it would bog down while running and when I got to it it was seized so I did a full rebuild and it still won’t run.

Did you follow the carb rebuild sticky?
Did you use only Genuine Mikuni parts?
Will it run if you connect the carb feul hose directly to the tank?

I used only genuine mikuni parts. I don’t know what the rebuilt sticky is or what you mean by connecting the carb fuel hose directly to the tank.

Did you use the new springs in the kit? If you did they are wrong.

You can bypass the fuel strainer and fuel valve to see if they are the problem by running a temporary hose from the fuel thank to the carb inlet.

I also replaced the fuel strainer and valve and they are brand new. I can see the fuel in the line goes into the carb. Still haven’t figured out the issue though. Some videos I’ve looked at make me believe it might be an air leak somewhere. I ordered a pop off tester to check the carb as well.

If pulling the choke masked it run better then you either have an air leak somewhere or the fuel is being restricted. Did you ever end up running a fuel line directly from the fuel tank to the carb to eliminate the fuel selector valve and filter from the equation? Also I know you said genuine mikuni but I’m interested to know where you bought the kit from? I find ebay and amazon can be deceptive In their advertising to lead you to believe its genuine Mikuni when it’s not.

I haven’t ran a line straight from the tank to the carb yet. I believe the rebuild kit was from Bay Area power sports and all the parts fit perfectly.

This is what I found at Bay Area powersports for your machine, the kit is Winderosa, this very well could be your problem. Although they appear to fit correctly the tolerances are off

My carb pops off at about 38-40 psi is that good. I checked it three times and got the same result.
23 to 43 is what Seadoo source says so I would say that’s perfect, at what pressure does it close and hold? Have you tested with 10 pounds to see if the needle is leaking once it’s back together

So pop off is within spec. I am also replacing my check valves because I wasn’t sure if I did it right.
When doing those check valves I pull the grommets through with dental floss and then have a little pick to pop it the rest of the way through. It would be handy to have 2 people for this,

It closes again and holds at 38 psi and it can easily hold 10 psi without leaking.

Part of my issue may have been that I forgot to put the o ring back on my low speed needle I’m not sure thought. Idk if something like that could cause my issues.
