97 GTI Start spins but wont start

Okay so I just got my 97 GTI out from the winter, and hooked up the battery and went to start. The starter sounds like its spinning but wont engage with the flywheel. What do i need to do?

Likely time to replace the starter or take it to a local starter shop for testing. Sounds like solenoid problems.

The gear can sometimes get stuck from sitting and you can spray it with some pb to break it free, but most times that will just be a bad starter that will need to be replaced, check your connections to the starter as well.
