I have a 97 GTI that I bought used a month ago. It has been in a "certified" SeaDoo dealer twice. The first I took it in because it wouldn't start. Bad battery so sayeth the dealer. Got it back in the water and it would start, but then when I hit the throttle it would die. Could not get it to do much more than just idle...sometimes it would run for a few minutes, but it would go back to dying when I hit the throttle. Ran great when I took it out of the water and hooked up a hose.

Took it in to the same dealer again. They diagnosed that the carb needed to be rebuilt.

Just got it home and put in the water...it started and died when I hit the throttle. Tried to restart and it would not restart this time. Brought it out of the water, still won't start. Battery went dead so I jumped it...still won't start. It is trying to crank VERY slowly, but after 2 or 3 RRRR...RRRR...RRRRevs, it quits trying.

I am ready to take it back to the dealership and throw it through the window as I've given them $450 for all this work and it won't even start now.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Keith

First Keith I would call the dealer and explain the seadoo isn't running at all. Tell them you want it to run when you get it back and expect not to pay any more. You shouldn't jump start the seadoo with any running vehicle as it could surge the electrical components and cause more problems. Is the battery new now from the dealer? Did the dealer rebuild the carbs? If the dealer did all this work I hope they did a compression check to see if the internals are ok. If the engine has low compression it will start on the hose on the trailer but could have a problem in the water with the load on the impeller from the water. The battery needs to have a full charged GOOD battery. Since the dealer already charged you serious money I wouldn't want you to start your own repairs at this point till the dealer gets it running for you. I doubt the dealer will refund you any money so you might have to have them finish what they started. This time the right way and not charge you anymore. They should at least have it in running condition before you picked it up from the dealership. Call the dealer ...hold your temper and explain you want it correct for what you paid and no more charges.
Let us know how you make out.

The only sugestion I have is ask them if they will cover under warenty if not let us know once a week so newbee's will know and so we do not go to that dealer. the dealer should not let problems like these leave the shop without leting you know of problems before you pick it up. they should go threw it and look for problems as they can make more money if you let them make the repairs, and allso you do not get pissed off and have to find these problems out your self on a day you are exspecting to have fun but to only be let down. I know there are some things that can be missed but this seems too much

Thanks guys. Murphy's Law that the dealer is closed Sun and Mon so I get to wait 'till Tues to talk to someone. Probably a good thing though as it will give me a few days to cool off!!

Sorry Karl...didn't answer your questions:

Yes it is a new battery that was installed by the dealer. Yes they rebuilt the carb. At least that is what they charged me for!! Sad thing is that these guys are the #1 SeaDoo dealer here in Portland, OR (SK Northwest). You'd think you could trust guys like this.

I agree!...

You've already paid them. I just did a bit of research on your single carbed, 717 motor. From your description, this sounds like a mixture issue, a pulse line to fuel pump issue or even the pop off pressure not set correctly.

This is the kind of shoty work that gets me on my soap box. A shop that takes advantage of those looking for a fix. All these people are looking for is "job security".........

I'd go in and talk to the manager/owner and politely, tell him that you came in with the problem, they diagnosed it, then you took it out, still screwed, brought back, paid more money, still screwed.

Like Karl said, they are not going to give you your money back and I bet you a thousand bucks, when you talk to the manager, he's not going to help you at all...........don't go back there.

Call your local Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. They are a watchdog agency, run by the government to inform consumers of their past work record with customers. That will weigh heavy on their business record. No business likes to have bad rep from the BBB........
