hi guy i'm having a problem trying to get my seadoo to crank. when i place the lanyard i get a single beep only. i've tried to place it in the diagnostic mode with no success. i get an error message on the screen that states "hi temp". does this mean the temperature sensor is bad? where do i go from here?

Single beep?

One single beep normally means that you are using the wrong lanyard. Have you recently started this ski with that lanyard?

You should be able to go into advanced diagnostics. Are you following the complete instructions? It's not un-common for someone to try the advanced diagnostics and forget to remove the lanyard.

You need to push the start/stop button, with the lanyard removed, 5 times. Then, you should hear one long, one short beep. Then, put the lanyard cap on. How many beeps did you hear. If none, then push the start button.

Outside the "hi temp" error message, does the ski turn over? When you connect the lanyard, does your gages come alive? I wouldn't worry about the error message until you get the correct beeps from the MPEM.

I got the ski with supposedly a bad mpem. i picked up a used one and had a dealer program it for my lanyard. i supposed maybe they didn't do it properly seeing as how him seemed to not really care to help me. so no i never have been able to start it yet. i was able to get the motor to turn over by bypassing the solenoid and jumping it directly. it seemed to crank pretty strong. I think i was able to get it into the diagnostic and thats when it flashed the hi temp warning. i tried testing the temp sensor as others have mentioned doing and it appeared to be bad so we'll see if replacement cures it. from what i've read there i no mpem test for a 97 gsx? i'd like to make sure the one i got i good.
