He said all he did to winterize it was drain the water..... I figured I would start with fresh fuel and additive, seamfoam, spark plugs, and fuel filters... any other suggestions out there....

O.K., first of all I would like to ask a favor, finish filling out your user profile, your location, if for some reason you don't want to tell us your location, give us an idea, of the region, I'm assuming you're in the US. Also put your watercraft(s) in your profile.

The first thing you need to do is download a service manual for your boat. You can get one from this site if you join as a premium member or you can just google for one and download it elsewhere. To join as a premium go to the main page, click on premium member resources, and just follow the prompts.

The following is based on the fact that the boat was running and properly winterized when it was put in storage.

If your boat still has grey tempo fuel lines they must be replaced with black automotive fuel hose your boat will use a mix of 1/4" and 5/16" hose, clean the fuel filters, especially the ones in the carbs., clean or replace the fuel selector valve.

Dump the fuel in the fuel tank, even is stabil has been used after 4 years it's bad. Fill the gas tank with 5 gals. or so of fresh premium gasoline.

The oil in the injector tank should be O.K., be sure it's the correct oil, use API-TC rated full synthetic. The injector oil system will probably need to be serviced but lets see if we can get the engines started and what kind shape the motors are in.

Install a couple of fresh batteries and see if she will start. If she starts don't run the engines for more that 30 seconds. If you're lucky and get this far post your results.

I will be starting Saturday, any way someone can point me in the right direction on how to drain the fuel and where too locate the selector valve

1. Drain the gas as best you can and put fresh in.
2. Shouldn't have grey fuel lines, but in case you do - change 'em.
3. Drain the oil tank and put clean fresh oil in the tank. As Lou mentioned earlier.
4. New battery fully charged.
5. Install the key/lanyard and see if you get two beeps.
6. Hopefully you got two beeps and it will turn over. Try starting each engine one at a time.
7. If they start, just run a few seconds and shut off.
8. Whether the engines start or not it is MOST IMPORTANT TO CHECK COMPRESSION. 150psi is near perfect. 135 and it is border line.
9. If you can start the engines and compression is good, that will open up a whole list of PM's to perform to get your boat back to A1 mechanical condition. When you can, check back with your results.

Hope this helps. At least you have somewhere to start.

This is crazy. I too live in Durant, OK (beautiful day huh?) I'm currently working on a 1998 Seadoo Speedster (also dual 787's) that hasn't been run in 2-3 years. Both of my engines run, but it needs a drive shaft replacement (almost finished). Unfortunately, the thing has a full gas tank.

Update. ... new battery, fuel filters, plugs, siphoned fuel added new fuel and fuel additive. .. added oil to old oil

Turned over fine both motors seemed to have a rattling noise that didn't sound normal other then that the right motor seems to hesitate on throttle response. ..

Now that the boat runs its time to pull the carbs and rebuild them and go through the rest of the suggestions. No way would I try revving the engines. Before you even start trouble shooting a hesitation you need to pull the carbs apart and go through them, if not you'll quickly learn how to replace an engine. It's been sitting for 4 years, that gas sat in those carbs and dried up leaving crap in there. Your looking at just about $250 for genuine Mikuni carb kits and new needle and seats. That's the down side to a twin engine boat.

The rattling noise could be pump noise. That is normal. You can purchase anti rattle kits, but what's the point.
My left engine is a little bit colder natured than my right and until warmed up it will hesitate a little. Another possibility is when going through the carbs is to install a new accelerator pump diaphragm.

What are the compression numbers?
Be careful running the engines for very long out of the water you can ruin your carbon seal on the driveshaft.

I would clean the carbs, fuel selector valves, pull the fuel baffle and clean the bottom screen.
Also change the inline oil filters.
On to the pumps. I would pull the pumps, check or replace the wear rings, new carbon seal kits and change the pump oil.
The manual will have detailed instructions on how to properly service your boat.

When you get her running good jetskigoodies has a good write up on how to buff and polish back to new condition.

Tjanks for the info guys.... should I put it in the water and leave it on the trailer and let it run for a while

Bellski,

We've got two threads running of the same subject, I thought about merging the two threads, but I think it would just be too confusing. I think it would be better to close one. Let me know which thread that you want me to close. Here's a link to the other thread.

I personally think the other thread in the premium members section is the one to close but I will let the thread author make the decision.

Thanks,
