Just got a 96 XP and had it service and tuned up :hurray:

put it in the water for the first time today... fired right up, but instantly started moving forward... Is the throttle cable too tight? or is it always moving? Reverse would be nice for getting off the trailer

Also, it beeps when lanyard is connected, and the digital gas gauge works, but neither the speedo or the VTS gauge works (VTS buttons do nothing either) are there particular fuses to check out for that?

I feel like one of the newbs asking 4 billions questions on the car forums I'm on :(

I will say this though, the XP has a power impeller and IT WILL FLY!!! love it :hat:

congrats slow...yeah, it'll forward move, since even at idle, the impellor is twist'n. Check the fuse boxes, along with the VTS unit in back og ski, thought theres a fuse in there, too...

thanks timmyboy... feel like I owe you a steak dinner for all the helpful advice the past few days!

Pulled the cover off of the VTS and it was completely covered in corrosion and locked up... Gonna try soaking it in WD40 and see if I cant get it to free up. Can't even back the screws out to open it up

Also, I see people talking about hooking these up to the hose, but can't find the connector? I know where it is on the GTI, but am clueless on the XP

It beeps when you put the lanyard on because the DESS recognizes your key, and two beeps mean right key your good to go...

which motor do you have? the flush fitting is inside the hull, you attach a coupler to it and now you can flush/run on a hose http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SeaDoo-Flush-Kit-Hose-295500258_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQhashZitem360142696702QQitemZ360142696702QQptZPersonalQ5fWatercraftQ5fParts

Not sure if there is a fuse for the speedo, but look on back of ski to left of the jet pump you will see a little wheel, make sure its free and spins, check connections to it....thats about all i know on this one

I had the same problem and this is what i did!

with the 96 the speedometer is connected in to the trim gauge purple and black wires i just had this problem and i ended up jumping purples and black so my trim and speedometer works and well it does it you need any pictures of what wires go where or advise on a repair let me know and email to you.

The seal at the back on the trim is shot. It lets water into the VTS unit and froze it up.

Might be a dead deal if it is too corroded. Pretty expensive to replace.

Speedo--check the little paddle wheel at the back. make sure it spins freely. Mine was missing a tooth and was stuck almost solid.

Like timmy said, there is no Neutral on a jet boat or ski. No Revers on the XP. So be ready to move when the engine fires.

To put it on the hose, there is a hose coming out of the top of the engine right at the back and just under the seat. There is a plastic T-connection there. Seadoo makes a small chunk of hose that snaps on there and connects to the garden hose. Costs about $6 at the shop.

there is a rubber boot at the rear of the ski above the steering nozzle, this boot is no good. it let water into your vts motor and shorted it out. what you should do is un plug the motor, check your fuse in the back box, replace it if blown, and try you vts. you should hear a click when you push the button up or down. the motor on the other hand is more than likely shot, lookin at about 80-120 for a used one. you need to order a new boot through a seadoo dealership. its gonna be 7-10 days till you get it since its comming from canada. i would know since i'm waiting on the exact same parts lol:cheers:
