96 XP - Identify new/old gas tank?

I recently purchased a 96 XP that I have been cleaning up and called my local dealer to see if this was the newer gas tank that was recalled a few years ago. He ran the VIN and said it was replaced back in 2015. I know the ski sat outside under a tree for a few years but this tank is really discolored and filthy. Is there a way to identify the replacement tanks at all? I called BRP and spoke to a young lady with a thick French accent that had absolutely no idea what I was talking about and said there are no recalls which obviously isn't true so I was going to wait a few days and call back to find someone more useful.

Edit: Wedco mfg by TPG. I'm not sure how to read those numbers but it doesn't look like anything from the 90's? That blue mark makes me think it's more recent.

Edit 2: That filler hose neck!

You can call any dealership and they well check the VIN since BRP will only cover one per ski. The guy I talked to said they had to physically do the install though because they have to cut out part of the old tank and mail it in, in order for them to get credited by BRP. The problem is a lot of dealerships are just letting the owners come pick it up which none of my local ones that I called so far will let me do anyway. Since my VIN was already claimed in 2015 I think I'm screwed if this is in fact the original tank.

@racerxxx I found an old post where you mentioned an even older post on how to read the mold dates on the gas tanks. I couldn't find the older post you mentioned in my search results. Can you translate these from my 2nd picture that I attached above?

If a dealer did the recall there should be a stamped x under the storage cover.there are three numbers molded into the hull and if it was done we put an x scraped in the fiberglass

I have had my 96xp since new, don't remember what date mine was changed but it does have the x scratched into the molded number. Here are a few pictures of the tank.

Another way to see if it was at least played with is look at the clamps see if they where moved at least.check the fuel baffle see if the clamps are in the same spot.but to me that looks like the original tank.the replacements where not as yellow they where more of a white color

I definitely do not have the X scratched in the molding or anywhere that I can find. I spent hours cleaning the mold and mildew out of the front of the hull over the weekend and looked around with a bright light. I know the ski sat in the woods for a long period of time and if the gas tank was replaced in 2015, that was 6+ years ago which I suppose the gas tank could have turned to this yellow/brown color if it sat outside exposed to the elements filled with fuel. My stickers don't match yours Figracer but your mold numbers are similar and is a Wedco too. I found a recent Youtube video posted a couple months ago and his gas tank has different stickers than yours and mine.

Either way, BRP absolutely will not allow another recall on my VIN even though my local dealership offered to help make noise. I've called 3 times now and even opened a case but was denied. I'm assuming the owner was allowed to pick it up without replacing the original and resold it or it's sitting in a garage somewhere.

In order for the dealer to get paid for the tank they would of had to of given them the VIN and then cut the fill neck and the tank info on top of it.is your tank fill neck cracked that was the issue they where having and not all machines needed the tank replaced so she may be correct that your Vin doesn't have a recall

The problem is that their records show my VIN did have a recall and that my tank was replaced in 2015 but I think I have an original tank based on the condition and the fact that the ski had gas/oil mix all over the inside of the hull on top of all the mold and mildew. I just don't have enough knowledge to confirm if what I have is safe or not. I don't believe the neck was cracked after inspecting it. The engine was rebuilt a few years ago and the previous owner had the carbs rebuilt and fuel lines replaced right before I bought it. I got it cheap because of the cosmetic condition.

They crack at the filler neck if it's not cracked run it.if your worried about get a new one I've seen them on flea bay for 60 bucks.but if the VIN comes up as done than I would say it's done because like I said a dealer can't get claim paid unless they send a peice back
