My family has had this machine since new but my dad just gave me this and the GTI. I just got them summerized and was checking everything and the Trim does not work on the SPX. It is stuck all the way up. (while fun on smooth water it sucks anywhere else) Is there a way to even manually adjust the trim so it's in the middle or even down a bit, or do I need to try and replace the motor?

And where is a good place to get parts for it. I am new to actually doing the work on them and am hoping to learn how, so that I can keep them running for many more years.

For parts go to the seadoo forum "parts warehouse" click on the link at the top of the page under "PARTS" Do you have a seadoo shop manual? If not here’s an idea for you. You could join as a "premium member". As a premium member you can down load a authentic seadoo manual from the seadoo manual library. In the library is a variety of manuals for almost all years and models. You can view as many as you like on line as a PDF file, or download it and print it for your personal and private use. There are operator manuals and repair manuals for you to do your own repairs on your seadoo. The repair manuals have everything from troubleshooting, repair procedures to winterizing. It contains wire diagrams torque specs and pictures for disassemble and assemble instructions. In the spec sheets it tells everything needed to maintain oil changes, spark plug gaps, carburetor rebuilds and impeller wear ring tolerances. Click on the "Seadoo Manuals" link at the top of the page for more details. If you need any help or get in a jam, we are always here to answer your questions too. Here is some information on the VTS;
Always confirm that the fuse is in good condition. The7.5 amp fuse is in the MPEM module. Check the motor with a multimeter. Install the test probes on both the Blue/Orange and the Green/ Orange wires. Resistance should be close to 1.5 ohm.
If the motor seems to jam and it hasn’t reached the end of its stroke, the following test could be performed.
Remove the motor from the VTS. Manually rotate worm gear to verify the VTS for free operation. Connect it directly through a 15 amp fuse to a 12 volt battery. Connect wires one way, and then switch the polarity of the wires to see it work in the other direction. If it does run in both directions it could be the VTS module. If the VTS motor does not stop at the end of its stroke then the motor could be defective.

The VTS module receives it current from a 7.5 amp fuse in the MPEM.
Disconnect the Brown/Black wire and the Brown/White wire from the VTS module. Connect the probes of the multimeter to the 2 wires of the module. Push the start stop button to activate the MPEM timer,(gives power for 33 sec. without running engine). Push the VTS switch down position until motor stops. The ohm resistance reading should be 24 ohms+-1%. Push the switch button up until the motor stops and the resistance should be 167ohms+-1%. This test isn’t perfect but it should be close.

I hope this information helps out. Keep us posted on your progress.

When I got mine, the seal outside the boat to the trim motor was shot and the motor housing was full of salt water.

I got the ski for free, and wasn't going to sink $500 into a new motor and parts. Mine was stuck in the full downward position. I did this http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=1340&highlight=trim to make it manually adjustable, but you have to get off the ski and adjust it. I tried all three positions last weekend, and the center hole just seems to be the best overall place for it.

Another thing...you can detach the trim motor inside the hull, the bolt that holds it down. Twist the trim motor up and it may move it a little more to the middle. Or, it may move it more up, I am not sure. Wouldn't hurt to try it.

Mine had the bolt missing, so it will move to wherever I put it.

Trim working

So I got out with someone to watch the trim as I could hear the motor turning and the Trim is working but the gauge is stuck in the up position. Not a bad thing but now I am curious if that is an easy fix or do I just not worry about the guage?

The guage isn't cheap...check out our "parts" link at the top of the page... if you can't live without it.
