We just bought a 96 spi that has been sitting for about 3 years. after a new battery and new fuel we started it up. ran fine out of water but when we put it in the lake it boggs down and shuts off when u give it throttle. we took it back out of lake and removed the fuel tank and cleaned it. replaced spark plugs. removed fuel selector and cleaned it. replaced all old grey fuel lines with the new black ones. cleaned all filters. removed carb and took apart. cleaned carb throughly. after putting all this back together we took it back to the lake. by this time it was dark so we just wanted to run it a few minutes to see how she did. she ran excellent!!!!! we ran it for about 10 min with no problems!!! brought it back home and it sat over night. we put it back in the lake the very next day and she boggs down again!! JUST LIKE IT DID IN THE BEGINING!!! so we took the carb apart and cleaned her again. put her in the lake she ran fine....next day boggs again.... i need help...what do i try next??? thanks for all your help!!!

bogging..

Can you disconnect main fuel line from carb when ski is running good... let it sit overnight with line disconnected/ next day reconnect fuel line and test.. does it still bog now?

same thing again

i did what you told me. i cleaned the carbs again and took it out on the lake. ran fine. i removed the fuel line before i took it out of the water. next day i replaced the fuel line and put it in the lake. needless to say she boggs down again!!!! :banghead: any more suggestions would be helpful! thanks so much!!!!!

It sounds like inlet needle in carb may be loading up some times. I would remove spark plugs and look and see if they are black if so I would give it a compression check if compression is good I would buy a repair kit for carbs that have inlet needle and all diaphrams. I would allways replace diaphrams and inlet needle in carbs when I clean carbs unless they look very good and are less than two years old. Sooner or later the diaphrams will wear and inlet needle will have a bad seat and I do not want to have to take apart carbs again for a few years. You can also look for a fuel restriction from tank to carbs if spark plugs look good and you know that the diaphrams in carbs look good. Good luck Robin

Here's the specs for your carb.....
1996 SPI (1) BN-38 (SB) MAIN-147.5 PILOT-65, 2.0n/s 21 - 37psi, LOW- 1-1/4 HIGH- 0
If it had a rebuilt done, and whoever may have installed wrong float arm spring...if not stock, make sure it has dull silver/long spring, or gold spring from rebuild kit.
