I just recently purchased a 96 GSX took it out for the first time this weekend. When I get on the throttle it will jump out and then bog down if I keep pressing and releasing the throttle it will attempt to go but if I just stay on it I cant get over 3000 RPM. Can anyone help me with this? I have never owned any type of water craft before so I am a little lost here

I think I know right off what you problem is.
It sounds like you need to remove the carburetors and clean them. If you're careful and don't tear or damage the diaphragms you won't need to buy a rebuild kit. Pay attention to the internal filters too. If you have gray fuel lines you need to replace them with black fuel lines available from auto parts stores like Auto Zone. Measure the length you need and bring a sample with you so you get the correct size. Replace one at a time so you don’t get them mixed up. If you need clamps replace them too. Use small stainless steel clamps also from the auto parts store. This should help yout problem.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Thank you I will try that out and let you know. I replaced the plugs and took it out again the same thing happens but if I turn the gas to RES I can run it fairly fast without it bogging down but my wifes GTI (85 HP) still is faster than the (110 HP) GSX.

I had the same problem with my 96 gsx. I just bought it 2 weeks ago and if i gave it any gas, the engine would bogg down and quit. My dad suggested a can of seafoam and i tried that. it fixed it perfectly and it hasnt had any other problems. seafoam comes in a red and white can and it basically does everything. it cleans out your gas and your injectors and a bunch of other cool stuff that i dont understand. but yeah that could be the problem if you wanna try that before cleaning the carbs

Your fuel selector may be clogged as well. You can bypass it, just have to look time to time, make'n sure you got gas

Did you add the seafoam to the fuel it self, or did you add it through the carb? I was just reading about it on the website and think I may try this as my 96 spx is bogging down the same way his GSX is.

Seafoam is the best !!! you can use it for everything ...even helps pass emissions .. its about 5 dollars or so a can maybe even 7 ..

but the fuel lines still may be clogged up either way you might want to do both and then you may not have to clean the carbs .

I just put it in the fuel tank. you can put it pretty much anywhere it says but i just did it in the fuel tank, i suggest this for anyone who has idle problems and stuff liek that it fixes so many problems

I know Seafoam does a great number of things. But if your carbs' internal filters are like this (most likely if you have the gray fuel hoses and are north of 10 years old), I find it hard to believe your problem will go away.

I scrubbed the hell out of these things with a toothbrush and degreaser and it still wouldn't come completely clean. A lot of the material was solid globs - not just a soluable film. So flushing a diluted injector cleaner or Seafoam through the carbs probably isn't going to get this stuff out.

Comparison of my "cleaned up" filter to a new one:

An fuel selector valve is so easy to pull out and purge.....just take it off and blow it out with carb cleaner and compressed air.
