Hey guys i have a 94 seadoo spx with the 657 in it. last summer the ski would start and run then just stall out after 15 to 20 sec of riding. took the carbs apart and the ski had the two filters in the carbs plugged up. cleaned and put them back together and the ski ran really good. The only thing was the ski would only run on res. so over the winter i installed a new fuel selector. so this year i put the ski in the water and it will run for 15sec or so and then die out. you can start the ski right back up and its good to go. I took the carbs off and the filters are good and clean. what do you think it is? do you think i should drain the tank? it doesnt matter if the fuel is on or res, still same problem. thanks again for the help!

the ski has new fuel lines and went to a inline fuel filter.

One possibility that I have recently experienced with that age ski is the pick up tube inside the tank was dry rotted and splitting down the length of the hose. It is actually like a clear vinyl hose about 8" long or so.

Have you checked the entire fuel system for leaks including the water separator and the function of both vent check valves?

The upper one should let air in but not out of the tank. The one at the bond line should not let air in but should let air out at something like 5psi.

I would run the strainer unless you have just bypassed it for testing. It is not only a filter but also traps any water from the tank before it can plug your carbs. THe carbs will not pass water, it sits in them and will plug the jets. Causes very strange running until you find it.

I found this in the hull loose. What is it? I think it go's to a hole below the rub rail....

Remove the black air tunnel (when you open the storage bin) and look up inside of the hull. Looks like it is the hose that goes from the hole below the rub rail and connects up under the area behind the handlebar. Pretty sure that is the vent line.

Looks to be broke from the vent on the side but don't know where it goes.

Took the ski out today after cleaning the carbs and it ran good for 15mins but I was just up on plane 1/4 throttle. When I opened it up it was good for about 10 sec or so then it would want to die. If I let off the throttle when it does this it won't stall, once it idles for a sec I can take right back off. Also when it goes to stall out after full throttle as it is coming off plane if you try to give it gas I get no response from the throttle.....any more ideas?

I don't get it. The ski will idle all day.....

On second look that is not fuel line but looks like oil line. Could it be the vent line off of the oil tank?

Insure the oil injection lines are plyable. If not, they may have a crack and leak, then your engine may be seizeing
from no lubrication.

thanks for the info. they are all new. i think i got it down to a junk sbt fuel selector that i installed. im going to bypass it tonight and see what i get

The clear hose in you picture is the battery vent hose.
I can't help but say stay away from the SBT carb kits and fuel valves.

Suggest that you put a small amout of pre-mix fuel in a bottle, remove the Fuel Supply line from the carb top inlet nipple and put a short clear line on that nipple and other end into the gas mixture then attempt start-up and see if the motor "drinks" the gas. This should determine if the car(s) need work or the fuel supply is culprit!
