94 GTS: Starts and revs fine (on the trailer), but put this thing in the water, and it bogs down (chokes and nearly quits) when accelerating ijust above idle n the water.
Things I've checked: clean fuel and filter, air filter clean, plugs replaced (and gapped properly), no apparent kinks in fuel line, in-line oil filter changed out.

OK, Last season, the drive shaft carrier bearing froze up and had to replace it, and the boot hose. I've pulled the pump before, so I know that procedure, but I can't figure there's any way I put this back in wrong, it just won't go back in wrong. Next step would be what? The shop manual indicates a small fuel filter inside the carb, would this be an expert's next choice for attack?

Does that engine still have the Gray fuel lines? if so replace them and change the old clamps too with stainless steel ones. The small filters might be clogged as the gray fuel lines deteriorate from the inside out. Clean the carburetors being careful not to damage or tear the diaphragms or you 'll need a new rebuild kit.
Keep us posted.

Still bogging down

OK, I had the grey fuel lines, replaced them, then pulled the carb and replaced the little embedded fuel filter (boy was it clogged), re-installed everything the way it was, and it starts okay, but still "argues" on acceleration. I've tried minor mixture changes, 1/8 turn either way, no difference. Two tanks of fresh fuel have been run through it, as well as one tank with Techtron fuel system cleaner. Any suggestions now? I just gave up on it yesterday and towed it back to the trailer.

dpskiman-
i too am having the same problem with my 94-xp that i bought a few weeks ago, was told it was not winterized, i have spent the last two weeks working on this thing, dragging it to the lake, only to leave very unsatisfied. i have totally dismantled & thouroughlly cleaned every thing related to the fuel system also, but problem still exist!
i am thinking it is an electrical problem on mine, but not sure. when i start & disconnect the battery it will not stay running. maybe a bad stator or rectifier? any info that we can share would be a great help.
thanks ... EQUALLY DISGUSTED

first off poor boy....

Never disconnect the batt like you would in a car while the ski is running.... Unless you want to fry your MPEM and pay me to fix it that is.... LOL

second. Sounds like a fuel related issue. on both parts... just cleaning the carb filters is a quick fix and to be honest works most of the time but not all of the time.... sounds like a carb rebuild is in your neaar future....

Do not continue to run the ski until you repair this problem. every time you run it you are running lean and causing a lean siezure. if you continue, when you fix the related fuel problem you will then be doing a top end too.... :)

battery disconnect

karl... thanks for the tip on not running while battery is unhooked! have gathered a bit a knowledge from reading other post, guess i need to check the voltage to see if it is 14.5. if not what could be the prob. thanks
