Help.....picked up a cheap 93 sea doo "sp" i think....not sure what it is......has a long single seat...580 engine......wasn't working.....gas lines bad.....cleaned carb....filters...and fires up......and runs great.....but only if i hold the button with the lightning bolt under it.....start button is fine.....revs very nice.....low hrs......but what the heck is the button with the bolt for.....ordered a manual.....but in the mean time would love to get it running......my 97 gti doesn't have one.....it's left of the starter button

that is where your lanyard goes it has a lanyard that fits down overtop of it to hold that down and when you fall off it kills the engine just go to the store and get one they are 13 bucks

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

Ain't got a clue what the button you're talking about is, maybe someone added a kill switch??? Post a picture if you can.

Lou

the only way that it could be a kill switch is if like you said someone put one on but they would have had to hook it up backwards cuz pushing down is supposed to kill it no keep it runnin

Lol.....gotta be kidding me.......doesn't even look like anything would fit on it.....but i sure hope your right brock.....that means it's fixed and ready to roll.....i'll go and get one.....thanks man

yeah if there is not a lanyard on it then thats gotta be it but can you post pics of it but im positive thats what it is i have the same one is it below you on the panel when your riding right in front of the seat if it is thats it

it really looks stock......there are 2 buttons right above the gas knob.....gas-gas off-reserve.....start button on the right.....with a green round dot.....and to the left is the one i'm talking about......is a dot....with a lightning bolt throught the middle.....one side is green....other side is red......can't figure out how to load pics yet

ok yup now that you said that about the color config and location im sure its your lanyard hookup. When you purchase your lanyard youll see how it hooks up. There is a rib on the inside of the lanyard that pushes down over that button and holds it down while you ride and when you fall off it pulls off with you and kills the engine . try it and let me know.

Right.......thanks guys.....didn't get any instructions with the ski.....and bought a lanyard today and ski works pisser now.......not bad for a free ski......was buying the guys ski tube for my nephew and he said if i want the ski for parts.....take it......lol......works great with a little effort on my part.....and you all's input.....thanks again

Did you replace your fuel lines? The gray ones go bad and gum/goo everything up. Youll have to reclean everything after you do replace them.

yepper.....replaced the gas lines....pulled the carb and cleaned it....gas and oil tanks looked good ....cleaned
and lubed the rest ....replaced seat cover and painted front........looks and runs like new

I have a 92 Sp and my problem is I have to hold the starter button down for it to run. I can let go of the lanyard button and it will still run! Almost like the switches are swapped, everything is wired like it is supposed to be according to the service manual. Funny puzzler! Thanks for all the good info so far!

hmmm....kinda sounds like you need a new lanyard and snap that goes over the button........i had a similar prob when i first got my 93 gts.....as i didn't understand the snap holds the switch down......order a new lanyard from amazon for like.....$17.....it will probably solve your problem.......is it a new ski to you???? earlier model start switches work different from the newer ones......lanyard holds the safety button down the whole time.....and then just press the start button

Someone disconected your black/red wire on ure
MPEM or the mpem is bad that is why it wont shut off or its possible the lanyard switch is stuck but you should be able to see that

Thanks for the replies! The ski is new too me got it for a song. The lanyard is new and snaps on pretty secure. I have dis assembled the switch down to the bare minimum, I don't think it is stuck, there is a definite "click" on and off. I will check all the wiring as soon as I get a chance today and make SURE everything is connected right. To me it just seems like the start button and the safety button have their functions reversed. I should mention also that when the ski is running the stop button does NOT stop the ski. I welcome all ideas, I'm going to get the opinion of this local guy that knows his stuff too and keep digging into it. Thanks again everyone!
