Summer lasts till November down here in Houston. Starts back up around March. Lately, we've had 100*+ days here. Water temperature is in the high 80 to 90*f.

Everything went back together last night and got it started. I set an idle that sounded close. I was tired and didn't feel like hooking up my dmm. It has a tach feature.

My biggest problem was with the oil pump prime screw. Got it loose, got oil, dropped the damned bolt, Twice! Now I have a mess in the hull to clean up.

Moving on to the pump. You can see the huge gap between the impeller and the wear ring.

I cleaned the hub, bearings, shaft and cone. Everything looked great. I installed the bearing, shaft and cone. I did the 10 minute, 10 psi test with no oil. Held like a champ. Pulled it all back out, dropped the wear ring in, fresh out of the freezer, and put it all back together, torqued to 52lbs. Added 2. something ozs of synthetic gear oil and set it to the side. Waiting on the hull to pump seal.

Yes, that is the 10.00 wear ring off ebay. It fits perfectly.

Didn't get to work on the ski at all this week. I did pick up a 95 gtx and trailer for 400.00. The ski was crashed, and the trailer needs new boards.
The ski does have the 657x engine. Will make a nice spare engine for the boat. It runs nicely. The pump needs a wear ring, and the impeller is pretty dinged up on the leading edges. It will work as a spare with a new ring. The seat is still in good condition and might use it for the season. I got all the parts off of it, including the dual gauge cowl. Cut the hull up and loaded it into the back of my truck. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Small update

I got the ski out on the water yesterday and rode close to the dock for the first hour. I varied the rpm so I could check the carbs adjustments. All seemed dead on with the factory settings. I then did wot pulls at about 5 minutes each and everything performed as expected. There was a moderate chop on the lake and I could feel the pump unload and hit when I landed.

I checked the plugs when I got home, and they were perfect. Both sides showed an even light brown color.
Now that I know that the mechanics are working perfectly, I can move on to the looks.
I will keep this thread updated with pictures as I progress.

That's always a good thing! Keep us posted with pictures.

5 minute long WOT pulls?!?!? Wow that's a long time :leaving:

I didn't think it was to long. I run my boat that hard. I wanted to make sure it could take it. My body on the other hand didn't like it much. It was pretty much like a dirt bike going across a bumpy field. Hope to have it out next weekend with the boat.

I run my ski like that. One end of the lake to the other when it's smooth or semi smooth. Sunday rained early, all the wimps stayed home. Not many wakes or chop. WOT

hell i ran my 96 gti at wot for at least 10 min several times this weekend, takes it like a champ.

I have a question about the steering nozzle. On my 94 speedster, the nozzles have a divider running vertical. On the 94 ski, there's no divider. On the spare pump off the 95 I have, it's divided. Is there really any difference in handling due to the non divided steering nozzle?
The ski seems to turn quickly and hard, acceleration is quick and hard, and reverse actually works really well.
Just looking for more information on this.

Hey hotrod. Did you set your high speed screws to 0 turns like the specs call for or did you take them a little bit out?

This is a great thread, hotrod. I like the way you are getting the craft back in shape, keep up the good work.

Hotrod. The reason I ask on the high speed screw setting is that I have some conflicting data on the 94 GTX. Some show a 3/8 turns others show 0 turns.

Hotrod you saw my other thread on the hesitation issue right? Pretty sure it's a lean hesitation that occurs when you go to wot quickly under a high load like pulling out of a spin. My son says it does it when going from a standing start too but I didn't really notice it there. My other GTX runs flawless so I'm having a bit of an issue nailing this one down. I checked the pop off when I rebuilt the carbs and don't remember any issues there but I just keep thinking this acts like a pop off issue. When we were in the water I turned out the low speed screws maybe another 1/4 turn but didn't notice a change so I put them back only to find out in the shop one was only about 3/4 of a turn out. Got me I'm usually pretty anal about this stuff. We're getting ready for a two week vacation with them so I just want to check all I can. If pop off is in spec is that good enough or should I look for something more specific?

I rebuilt them to factory specs. I only opened the lows a quarter turn and it seemed to respond well. I did see your thread and noted to check pulse line.

I would open the low speeds up till any bog it may have goes away, yes pretty much any stock ski will run at stock carb settings , are they the ideal setting , no they are not , each ski differs a tiny bit.
