4-Tec Oil Reccomendation

I'm looking to swap oil and others have told me Castrol 10W40 was the way to go. Really???

I like a synthetic. Any preferences???

Any good quality wet clutch compatible oil will work assuming it's for the supercharged models listed in your sig. I use Castrol 10W40 motorcycle oil, Valvoline motorcycle oil is also popular.

Just wondering why so many posts are about oil? Is the XPS semi synthetic oil crap? I used the XPS synthetic in my 96 XP for years and never had an issue. Just changed over to the 4 tec so I'm trying to catch up with as much info on maintenance as possible. I've used Mobil 1 in my vehicles for over 25 years with no issues, including my Z06 which is 10 quarts. I'd be happy still using the XPS unless there is something better. Thanks for any input. Stay wet and ride it like u stole it!!

Sea Doo recommends non synthetic oil for supercharged engines. Synthetic oil impairs super charger clutch operation.

Doubtful, it's probably a quality product. People are so obsessed about oil and seem to give certain products a thumbs up or down based on nothing more than the color of the bottle or a cool logo. It would take a great deal of scientific analysis to rate one oil over another and anecdotal tales like "this oil is great" mean nothing. Go with what the manufacturer recommends.

I would imagine most people look to other oil brands for two main reasons.

1. They may not live close to a dealer so it's a long drive to buy oil.
2. The price of a quart of oil for a Ski is much higher at the dealer than a comparable oil product bought at Autozone, etc.

Not living close to a dealer is valid, even for me. I walked out with a gallon the day I bought mine so I wouldn't need to come back in 6 months. But compared to what some of these machines cost it's hard to believe oil cost is much of a factor.

And on the motorcycle forums. And I bet most of those doing the arguing don't ride that much!

In my wet clutch motorcycles I run Shell Rotella T synthetic. It is for diesel engines and doesn't have friction modifiers and is reasonably priced by the gallon. I will probably try it in my skis too.

Cost is a factor...regardless of what the machine cost me years ago to purchase. I still gotta budget fuel ect for every trip on the water. The recommended oil from SeaDoo at the shop will cost $15 a qt as opposed to $4 a qt for 10w40 Valvoline 4stroke motorcycle oil at crackauto. Multiply by 2 for a second ski and I've lost a trip to the lake.

As long as the oil is wet clutch compatible you're good to go...even under warranty...look it up.

This subject comes up so many times...you'd think a simple search would fill three or four pages.
