I have a 2007 GTI 4-TEC. Running perfect, then tried to start it again, same day, and the only thing that happens when the key is inserted on the DESS post is the relay clicks but there are no beeps at all. Checked the battery and it is fine. Checked all quick connects on the wiring harness. Where do I start?

Do you hear the click, when dess is inserted and start button pressed? Any power to gauges etc? I think the solenoid (starting) is under the front cowl. If you short the terminals does the starter turn the engine over?

When I insert the key, I hear the click on the relay. There are no beeps, no gauges, nothing happens when I hit the start button. I have not tried shorting the solonoid.

I would start at MPEM, ground the black lead of your multimeter to the black (-) terminal on battery. Put the lanyard on, and check for voltages 12+V on each fuse (probe each fuse holder), did you boost your ski with a vehicle? The fuses are labelled post back voltage results across all fuses.

No problem, I got the same ski (model year earlier, but same thing) I will be getting it going this afternoon too. So I can help yah with references if need be.

How many hours on your '06? I'm able to ride all year down here and have an enjoyable 450 hours on my '07 and very few problems!

49hrs ... Ski is sold to my uncle "in law"... our lakes are frozen solid for about 6mo a year. LoLs ... Glad to year your enjoying yours!! Hopefully we can get your problem sorted and get you back out!

I checked the fuses today with the key in the DESS and there was no voltage on any fuse in the fuse block or on the connector bars. I checked the 30 amp fuses in the little block that has the relay and they both showed 12.6 volts with the key in and the key out. Any ideas?

In answer to your question, no I did not boost the ski with a vehicle. It was running fine for the afternoon, then I went to start it again an hour later and it would do nothing other than click the relay.

Sorry so late in reply, k not boosting it. Glad we got that outta the way. Under the front cowling by your mpem is your starting solenoid. On the battery terminal side of the solenoid there is two other power leads sharing the 12V Terminal look for a broken connection/wire.

Hey Van,

I spent yesterday getting my speedster de-winterized and didn't get to the GTI, I will a little later today. I'll send you a PM.

Thanks, Hopefully you had some fun with the speedster. Rained here all day so I didn't get to tear down the driveshaft on my GTX like I had planned. The splines stripped out on the driveshaft or couppler on Saturday.

Van,

I was mistaken, the two leads I was referrering to are actually directly connected to your Main Positive Batter Terminal wire. Sorry (sportster I was just working on had them on the battery side of starting solenoid) make sure this connections are in tact. Also, ensure your budds resistor hasn't come off. Its the grey 4 pin modular plug, with what looks like a dummy connector on the end of it. It should be fastened to the same aluminum plate as your mpem.

Sorry for the confusion.
