Hi guys. I've wanted a jet ski for a looonng time. Recently while water skiing on the lake, a friend of mine came up and told me he had an 04 RXP for sale. He said his son was riding it when the engine "blew up." After further evaluation at a dealership. A tech said that a clamp came off one of the pumps, and sucked water into the engine and supercharger. I have a few questions. The hull is immaculate, and I got the blown up engine with it. I paid $200. I do plan on putting it back together if I can, but how much is the hull worth alone?

1. Where can I get an engine for this ski and whats a price range I should look for.?
2. Do I HAVE to have the supercharger, or can I save money and just get an engine without it?

Thanks,

Brad Shearer

you could part the machine out for more then you put into it.. i could see a hull only.. no pump.. nothing, go for around 400 bucks..

first think i would do would be view the damage of the motor and determine if a rebuild will be fine or if you need a new block.. blocks alone are selling on eBay for upwards of 3500 bucks. complete motors could be around 5-6000... obviously the cheaper route would be rebuilding the machine your self if your mechanically inclined. otherwise this may be one of those "the cost to fix exceeds the value of the jet ski" situations.

you do not need a supercharger as all 4-tec motors use the same motor mounts and they're interchangeable.. but what is not compatible would be the ECU from the supercharged ski... you would need to find a 155 complete engine, 155 ecu with wiring and completely rewire the ski, the impeller probably isnt set to the right pitch so you may need a new impeller... IMHO.. send the supercharger in if you decide to rebuild the ski and have a supercharged ski.. once you ride one you will never want to ride a N/A ski again. well, well worth the supercharger.

if you do not want a supercharged ski your only option maybe to part out this ski and buy a 155.

I recall reading that supercharged engines versus non-supercharged engines have different compression ratios.

Yes? No?

Different pistons and i think different timing and such so yeah different compression.. He would have to completely replace his block with a 155 block

I will keep the supercharger equipped then. I think I screwed this up when I first posted this. The jetski came with EVERYTHING. The ecu, supercharger, pump, everything. Whether the pump is any good now I do not know. Im assuming with that it would just be cheaper to rebuild the engine? I have a father who is extremely mechanically inclined and worked for Mercury for a long time. I don't think putting it back to together would necessarily be a problem.

Perfect then... Look into pulling the engine and disassembling to diagnose exactly that you'll need and where to upgrade... I think your ski fell into the weak valve category so you may want to upgrade there.. If your dads mechanically inclined then shoot for rebuilding the supercharger your self... Mercs are a tough engine and take some skill to work on so I don't think you'll have a problem.
