So driving this past weekend sucked up a stick. Heard a slight grinding noise. Gave it a little gas then it was grinding a lot and the motor seemed to be locked up. Swam it to dock and then back to the trailer. Removed stick from impeller on land and hooked to water. Started gear comes up but crank won’t turn, bearing go out on jet pump? I have a claim into insurance. No idea as this is my first jet boat.
also any place in Cincinnati, Indianapolis or Louisville to work on it?

You might still have a chunk in the pump. Look into the nozzle. You might even need to remove the stator. If the stator slides of the shaft easily, the bearing is OK.

Can you grab the flywheel and try to move it by hand?

Drain the oil in the gearbox and look for gear chunks or glitter. Damaged gears could jam the crank.

Very few shops will work on our boats. Even though the engine is from an outboard.
Hence the reason for this forum.

You may want to consider removing the spark plugs prior to trying to turn it by hand via the flywheel to eliminate compression in the cylinders.

There’s a traveling mechanic that cane to look at it this weekend. From Warsaw, ky. Couldn’t determine anything from first glance. So I did take it to his shop and he’s going to tear into it this week. Hopefully i we’ll know something by mid week. Knew exactly what to look for. Crack is suck but plugs are clean and don’t look to be run lean or anything. So now it’sa waiting game. Thanks for the help thus far!
I did buy an 11 fin stainless grate. It just came in Friday, go figure. A little too late. I boat on the Ohio River and there can be debris at Times

So mechanic found it threw a rod due to bearing. With the impact of sucking up a stick, could that of caused damage to the motor? The week prior I had a small stick in the impeller and drove 10 miles with it in there too get back to the dock. Too rough to get it out and just above idled back. Could anything to do with sucking up the stick cause this issue? I would think that impeller spinning and willing abruptly could cause issues? Any help appreciated.

Or if anything. I would be willing to sell it as it sits. Any idea on price?
Bimini top with enclosure
Road and snap cover
New radio
Boat is in great shape. Just the motor at this point. Still working on insurance as my mechanic thinks the bearing still has something to do with sucking up the stick etc

Anything small enough to get past the intake grate would not hurt the engine. It would grind it up, and spit it out. The engine was old... the bearing has gone bad... and a rod broke. It happens. You have to remember... these engines live their lives at almost full RPM. AND... they are full of water, and get put away wet. If you get 300 to 400 Hrs on an engine.... that's doing good.

Insurance won't pay for a mechanical issue. So... I'm not sure why you would chase that. But... maybe that's why the mechanic is saying it was damage from a stick. (Incidental damage)

As far as a price... well... we are getting to the end of the season... it will probably be hard to get rid of. You may get a few thousand assuming it's in great shape. Here's the deal... see what that boat is worth if it was in good running order. Then subtract $5k from that. When I bought my Islandia in 2011... it had a bad engine, and I only paid $4k for it.

The adjuster said the bearing is failed. My mechanic is saying it is not. Sorry about the miss wording of who.
There's is signs of hydrolock and water from exhaust side. That's why mechanic is saying it could of happened with what happened.

The stick was big enough to stop the impeller from moving fyi. I went from going up on plane to dead stop like I sucked something up to the motor starting to make a noise and locked up. Pulled out there boatand had to use pliers to pull the stick out from impeller.
