The trigger senses when to tell the computer when to fire the spark plugs. It's under the flywheel. The connector where you can check it, is behind the flywheel. Specs and procedure are in the book. However, it can check OK, and be on the edge of failure. It may fail when it gets hot.
The system switches part of the ignition system (don't know how or why) at about 2600 rpm. Your rpm may increase smoothly to this transition point, then start to stumble. Sometimes (like mine did) it will pick up again about 4500 rpm and be smooth up to 6200 rpm. My trigger tested good, but was a problem at 2600 rpm.
