My boat died this weekend , i mean it had no electrical power at all, no lights even , definitely not enough to engage starter! Looked inside and found all the brackets holding the battery to the floor broke offm but battery connection still made and good! Took out battery and tried another 12v source and it was ok, But now the starter willnot turn the engine , just a loud grinding noise from starter i believe?
Any help???
and where exactly is the starter for this boat, under what?

Starter

Your starter is down low, on the left side of your engine. You must remove the air airbox to gain access. there are 2 allen head bolts that secure it to the side of the block.
What do you mean by you tried another 12 volt source?
If your "other 12 volt source" isn't capable of putting out enough amps to run the starter then that may be the reason you hear a grinding sound ( starter bendix not all the way engaged).
I'm having a hard time believing your starter and/or starter bendix went bad because your battery came loose.

:agree: Be sure all the connections are clean and have a good connection. Remember never jump start the seadoo battery or connect a charger to the battery while is attached to the seadoo. It could send a power surge to the electrical components and cause more problems.

I pulled out the battery and attached my eliminator powerbox to see if it would give me some power back and it did, well the lights and DESS came back to life! I tried the starter and it just made some bad grinding noises! I since charge n\my Boat battery and reinstalled it in a fabricated box and it seems to be Ok, battery wise anyways, it still just grinds when i try to i\engage the starter!

How do these boats work anyways? I mean i don't see any bendex. The starter armature seems to be stationary, no movement in and out, so how does this mess and let go once engine starts?
any help further much appreciated!

The Bendix is on the end of the starter in the case of the magneto. If you take out the allen screws you will see it is a simple design. Most car starter re builders can re-build the starter for you.

starter?

Dude, if you need a new starter, try DB electric. They have your starter for under $100 bucks. The bendix will remain inside the magento case. The only thing that will come out is the starter and head.
Go to dbelectrical@comcast.net or call 800-753-2242 and tell them what you need, they'll mail you back. Make sure you give them the year and engine size. Boat hull doesn't matter. Your starter part# is 278000987. Good luck!...

so your saying the bendix is not apart of the starter? I seen some schematics and it seems like it is in the flywheel case .... and this must be what i have stripped or damaged! Any help with this work or parts i will need or where to get them?
thanx again

Has anyone else had this problem, Major noise trying to start?
I need a little insight as to where to look or what to do next, I'm still ung up on why this happened the same time the battery/boat went dead?

In that model the Bendix is in the case with the magneto. The starter comes out and leaves the Bendix in the case. You have to remove the Magneto case and there are 2 screws I think that hold the Bendix in place... remove the bracket and it will come out. It might need to be replaced.. or at least cleaned up.

Can the magneto case be removed in the boat, or do i have to remove the engine? How much troble am i looking at here to get this done?
I 'm left to believe the problem has to be in there somewhere with all the grindin i'm hearing!
thanx

Anyone????

Yes....

Yes, in the boat, you can remove the magneto cover. You may want to have a piece of mirror to assist since it's fairly close to the forward part of the engine compartment.

The bendix shaft is recessed into the block casing and into the magneto casing. But yes, you should be able to pull it where it sits.

I had to remove my magneto cover and found it easier to take the engine out, the lower bolts are to close to the fibreglass and to low to reach easily, this was after removing exhaust to see if i could get to them. I dont like working upside down so i pull the motor most of the time.

so how do you go about pulling the motor and how much trouble is it?
any help or link to more advice/ procedures would be much appreciated!!

If you don't have a seadoo manual, then I have an idea for you.
You could join as a "premium member". As a premium member you can down load a authentic seadoo manual from the seadoo manual library. In the library is a variety of manuals for almost all years and models. You can view as many as you like on line as a PDF file, or download it and print it for your personal and privet use. There are operator manuals and repair manuals for you to do your own repairs on your seadoo. The repair manuals have everything from troubleshooting, repair procedures to winterizing. It contains wire diagrams torque specs and pictures for disassemble and assemble instructions. In the spec sheets it tells everything needed to maintain oil changes, spark plug gaps, carburetor rebuilds and impeller wear ring tolerances. Click on the "Seadoo Manuals" link at the top of the page for more details. If you need any help or get in a jam, we are always here to answer your questions too. Premium members get priority when it comes to getting quick detailed answers.
