So top speed right now is 41. The thing runs fine. I've seen that the machine should be running at 50-55. I've only owned it for a few months. My friend owned it since new. Wondering if there's a issue. Any help will be appreciated

My 2003 GTI LE topped at 45 mph before rebuilding. Now still in burn-in but could not go over 38 mph. Found out a carb issue. Being rebuilt now. I guess a bad carb could cause that. But yours is a RFI. Totally different. Is the motor a 717?

Benji.

Not sure the rpm's won't be at the lake till saturday. I'll check and update

OK,... while he's doing that, Im having similar results with my newly acquired 01 GTX RFI, I have not had the injectors professionally cleaned, and I have not set the TPS since acquiring, (although Ive never removed the TPS from the throttle body either.)
The machine is running excellent except that it seems it not getting full throttle, Ive checked the cable adjustment and the butterfly is fully opening. Top speed is 48mph at 6550 rpms, flat out on flat water.
My 98 GTI 717 w/way more hrs on it, has no problem keeping up with my 01 RFI 787 w only 81hrs.

check the wear ring for and impeller for dings and also check the gap. should be about 12 to 22 thousands. too much gap will cause cavatation. rpm seem a little low should be around 6700 rpm or better and top speed should be 55-56 mph depending on elevation. also is the impeller stock? also check compression.

Yup, wear ring is properly fitted,.. compression is 147-150, but Im missing 200rpms and 8-9 mph. It may be the TPS setting,.. im just too cheap to pay the candoo price right now!,.. I may eventually break the bank and buy one.
Shop manual says something about setting the TPS with Ohms Meter.???

I could be wrong maybe someone will chime in but I think different prop pitch and rave adjustments (power band) can add some performance on an old machine. Is 40mph not fast enough! lol

So I haven't been at rhe water with my machine. But I did inspect my impeller. It has a few small Knicks on it. Is there a good upgrade for my machine or should I just get a stock impeller?

I have an 01 GTX RFI. What is (was) the outside temp / humidity and elevation when you rode?

I show 53 mph as the max in the info center, but lately can only get 44 at 6720 rpm. We are at an elevation of 1070 ft above sea level and we have had temps in the mid to upper 90s with morning humidity in the 90s, dropping to the low 60% humidity as the outside temp goes up. The result? High Density Altitude which drops performance.

I used to fly single engine airplanes and Density Altitude made a significant difference.

Since the ski is running perfectly otherwise, that is my theory. When we get cooler temps and dryer air, I will test that theory, but keep temp, humidity and altitude in mind.

I'm 459 ft above sea level. The day I saw 41 it was in the lower 80s humidity was around 60%

Well, the rev limiter on our machines is 7200 rpm. I think I can buy the loss of 500 rpm due to DA on my machine, but the DA for your ride does not seem high enough to explain the loss of 700 rpm.

Did you use a feeler gauge or a dime to check the gap between impeller and wear ring? If a dime fits anywhere, it needs a wear ring. Mine is close and I may change it over the winter.

my (new to me) 2001 Rx DI would only do 45mph @ 6800 rpm... Turn out there was a very large rock in the jet pump and as a result the impeller, wear ring, and the plastic part of the jet pump have all been damaged :(

this seadoo keeps turning out to be worse and worse of an investment.

So I got up to the lake house. Took it out for a drive. The rpm's are at 6300 speed is at 41.
