yup let me know. always nice to meet new people. I'm about an hour out of boston. hopefully some time this week I will be backing my new to me boat down my back yard and right into the lake for the season.

Ok so I pulled the black/yellow wire that comes from the main harness connection and goes to the rev limiter and the cdi's and cranked it and still nothing. What should I test next and how? This is what I'm working with for a volt meter. Cranks over like gang busters so I know the battery is good. Brand new also.

I would check the fuses on the engine. And then start with the parts under the flywheel. (The Trigger and Stator)

didn't know the engine even had fuses. if you are referring to the ones in front of the drivers compartment in the fuse block then I already checked and changed them all . I already pulled the stator and trigger and the trigger has some cracks in the surface and I'm thinking it may have had some moisture seep into it as the boat sat under a cover for the last 4 years. stator had some rust on it that I wire wheeled off and also cleaned up the 3 trigger points (not sure if that what they are called)

Yep... that's the fuses. It's mostly just charging and fuel related... but it's always good to verify.

That trigger looks like it's going to be bad. But, in the manual, it will tell you how to check it with your meter. (Put it on resistance, and watch for the switches to open and close) The manual will also tell you how to check the stator. (looking for specific resistance between the coils)

oh... also... look in the flywheel, and make sure the magnets aren't cracked out. It's not common... but it can happen.

ok checked the fuses and they are all good. I ordered a used "tested" trigger from ebay and will have it Friday. flywheel looks perfect.
tried checking the trigger out of the boat and this is how I set my meter and the reference chart I was using. when I connected the leads it just kept climbing and climbing and didn't stop.
I stopped trying at 36.00 and the scale reading is Rx100 whatever that means. but anyways this is what I have...

got my trigger today from ebay... came home from work and installed it and turned the battery on and put on the kill switch lanyard and put the key in the switch and turned it and didn't really expect anything at all and wasn't holding my breath figuring it wasn't going to work anyways with my luck... it cranked for a few seconds and just as I was about to give up and turn the key back IT FIRED UP WOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO....:thumbsup::D
my heart skipped a beat and I shut it right off as I wasn't connected to the hose or in the water. this weekend I will back it down my yard to the water and fire it up and set timing etc. but after it sitting 4 years and all my hard work it finally runs again.
I can not say thank you enough to dr. Honda for all his guidance and help. again if your ever in the boston area hit me up I owe you some suds. thank you again sir.

ok got it in the water today and went to start it and the thing just went to wide open throttle. found the linkage was hanging up. got it to move freely and not stick and now when o go to start it It turns over and wont start. just yanked it out of the water and threw in a couple jet skis instead... will check for spark ,fuel later.. its hot and I wanna ride

still turns over fine just wont start, had it on the trailer in the water thank god or it would have ripped my dock off and sent me into the land.
is it possible that being stuck full throttle had the trigger in a different position and now that throttle is normal the timing is off ? I gave up on it and went out on the jet skis but will get back at it tomorrow. any ideas what to check. when I first started it this morning it was surging at high idle like it was only firing on 3 , then I cut the purple wire on the guardian because it was already cut. then it went from a surge right to a full throttle firing on all 6 and then fixed the linkage and then got nothing.

ok so being the redneck I am I tied a string to the linkage since you cant move throttle forward without being in gear. I pulled the string a bit turned the key and it fired up again. timing ?

Sorry I missed that last question.

Since your throttle was stuck... I'll assume that the link to the trigger was set wrong. So... take a step back... and check everything. Pop the trigger lose, and make sure the throttle is moving free. Then, hook up the trigger again, and verify that the throttle still works. THEN... check the timing.

Not a problem I know your a busy guy and I do sincerely appreciate taking the time to answer me. T
Your answer is exactly what I was thinking but I didn't want to mess anything up. I figured since it came from another boat and was shipped to me it got moved around. I will be resetting it this weekend. Thanks again

actually put it in the water for real today. no more training wheels (trailer). adjusted the trigger a bit and tried to start it but nothing. kept adjusting it and she fired and smoked like a chimney. let it run for a few and made sure I had water flow from the tell tale and then shut it down and fixed a couple leaks. loose fuel/water filter and a split bleed line. will get back at it tomorrow if it don't rain like its supposed to. but at least I have a starting point right now and something to work with. thanks again doc.

tried out the lanyard yesterday to make sure it worked. with boat running I pulled it ......boat kept running ...DOH

If your lanyard is like mine (2000 challenger 2000) the cap just pushes in a button. Mine is stuck pushed in so the lanyard won't do what it's supposed to unless you change the switch out.

yeah it goes in and out no problem it just don't kill the motor. I'm gonna swap it out for a new one. don't wanna risk it as I drive like a savage and god forbid something happens and I get tossed like a salad... lol ...

well the boat has been sitting in the water for over a week now only attention it has gotten is to go make sure its not taking on water and to drain it when it rains. did some shopping for it tho. have a nice wake board tower, new jvc marine stereo system with 4-400 watt speakers, 2-800 watt wake tower pods and a 52" 500 watt LED light for the tower all on its way this week. next will be a couple LED drain plugs to light up the water at night. nice weather is coming here and I wanna enjoy the hell out of this boat this summer. oh yeah and the boat runs pretty damn good too... lol ...thanks to any and all who contributed to help me get it going...
